Alamo $2 problem

Hi LVAer,

Booked a car with Alamo on nov. 30, for an upcoming January trip.

Checked today (dec. 28) and noticed the charges are $2 higher. Increases came from "concession recovery fee", "vehicle license fee", and "NV gov surchg".

Called Alamo and was told to provide the printout showing lower total and they will honor that lower cost.

What is your suggestion: 1) accept their explanation, 2) continue to fight it, 3) call president Obama.

What has been your experience?

Practically speaking, its only $2 and do not want to spend an inordinate amount of time fighting this (sheesh, I spend more money playing stupid gambling slot machines).

Thanks,

Keep your original reservation and just present it when picking the car up. They will honor it.

We have always used Alamo...I, too, book it way in advance and it changes sometimes daily so I just cancel my existing reservation and take the new cheaper one. You can do the same without any penalty because you don't give a credit card # or anything!!

What is nice about Alamo is when the bus takes you to the facility away from the airport you walk up to the Alamo section and instead of having to talk to a counter person you just go to the kiosk where you can get the paperwork done there in no time. There is always someone there to help you do it if necessary. No hassle, no insisting on their extra expensive insurance, etc. It's the best.

Soooo, keep your cheaper reservation...they will honor it and keep looking daily for different lower rates. If you would like a really good rate code you can private message me and I will tell you the good deal.

We too are going in January - 23 to be exact.
I used Alamo in Dec. Shortly after getting to my hotel I realized the gas tank was only half full. I called customer service immediately and then returned the car half full at the end of the week. It took me another 2 phone calls to get the refill charge removed from my bill but they eventually agreed. It wasnt a pleasant experience but they did the right thing in the end. I would use them again.
$2?

If $2 is a problem then maybe going to Vegas might not be a great idea. Is spending time writing a topic and making phone calls worth a $2 headache?
Were you able to use the $30.00 or $40.00 coupon codes which were posted

a couple of weeks ago????? If not check back & try those codes to see if

your total rental would be cheaper.

Diane

Hi Folks,

Chessie - sent 2 PM (I think) but not really sure how it works, but yes I would be interested in your lower "...good rate code...". Thanks.

pjstroh - good to know they are honorable. Thanks.

snidely333, rhousedj - lol, on you posts, gotta agree with you that this is very innocuous post.

NannyD - yes, I did use the $40 coupon code back when it was offered, and since then have been checking periodically for lower prices. Car rental prices probably have been going higher causing the bottom line to be much higher.

Thanks for all you helpful tips,

It might not be so ethical, but I often return rental cars 1 or 2 gallons less than full. The fuel gauges still read full. It's a savings of $3 to $6.

Yes, screwing the next guy out of a buck or two is certainly a great way to cap off a vacation.

Now, I'm purposely not refilling the rental car when I take my vacation paid for with the $10,000 I find.
