Another AC casino to close

There are just more choices now. And I agree, they forgot about the "little guy" when offering comped rooms. It is a 6 hour drive for me to get there, and I usually only stay at the Tropicana which comps my rooms, midweek in summer, weekends in winter. Harrahs does give me some offers, but not much since I usually do not visit their casinos other than the marina once in a while.

I never liked Trump plaza. I have never won there, and they are usually wall to wall non players sitting in seats for some drawing or other. Someone said 4 casinos to close: I see ACH (hilton) closed, then Showboat, and now Trump plaza. Which is the 4th??

Why AC failed; in no particular order

1) catered to the high rollers; and ignored the mid to low. They eliminated bus tours & while those people didn't bring thousands of $$$, they brought in people volume
2) lack of hotel rooms
3) lack of air service
4) never got away from the seedy crime areas surrounding the casinos
5) parking fees
6) competition from Philly & Penn, Indians & NYC. People could get the same experience minutes from their homes
7) tolls and gas from NY, which could exceed $100 round trip
8) minmium 3 hour drive from NYC, assuming no traffic
9) local corruption (thier mayor went missing for a fews days a few years ago) in the last 10 years one casino or another was always teetering on the edge. THis provided an overall poor image of struggling & not cool

AC hasn't failed, it's still taking in $2 Billion a year in gambling revenue.

AC didn't eliminate bus tours, the bus tour people are going to other casinos closer to their homes. Borgata never allowed buses and they're the number 1 casino in AC.

There are quite a few hotel rooms in AC. $60 a night during the week and $400 a night on weekends.

There is an airport within 20 minutes drive from AC. If you're going to get on an airplane, might was well fly to Vegas. I spent 9 nights in Vegas and it cost me $320 to stay for 9 nights. That's like 1 night in AC.

Yes, it's very seedy.

Paying for parking sucks.

Competition hurts any business. Especially gambling.

Some nice folks got kidnapped from Trump Taj and murdered. That's no way to draw in tourists. I get to AC 1 to 3 times a month. It's a dangerous place if you let your guard down.
Revel is the rumored 4th.
My opinion is that;

1. A.C. has no attractions other than the ocean. --- A shopping pier, miniature golf, and a real good sub-shop don't count.

2. It hasn't stayed competetive with the rest of the gambling world (especially Vegas).

3. It's dumpy, ..... always has been, .......... and always will be.

AC has done a very poor job of linking the beach, boardwalk and amusement rides to the casinos.
AC Works for me.

I fly in for the weekend on a junket, play in the casinos and leave. Maybe a little shopping with Mrs. Blade along the Boardwalk and The Pier at Caesars. Otherwise, gamble, eat, screw and shop.

I can drive to CLT airport and fly to ACY faster than driving to Harrahs Cherokee that is 2.5 hours from my NC Home.

MULTIPLE CHOICE:

Which one of the above should NOT be advertized as an A.C. attraction ???

Shop. Who the hell wants to go shopping while on vacation

We have kind of a love/hate relationship with AC.
I married a "Jersey Girl" and lived and worked for a while in Cape May at the very southern tip of NJ.
I now live in Iowa although we still hold a yearly family get together in Cape May. AC is a great airport to fly into and we now stay overnight at the Tropicana. I found some 9/6 JOB in dollars so I was happy and thought that the ocean provided a neat vibe.
What was distracting was the slummy areas and pan handlers out on the boardwalk. The casinos ranged from real nice to real seedy although I can tolerate a lot for better paying VP.
I am always sorry when folks lose their jobs. I liked the Atlantic Club prior to their closing but have never stayed at either Showboat or Trump Plaza.

Got to agree with the commentary on the white house cheese steak subs- almost worth the trip by themselves.
