Anthony Curtis Says: "Bring Back the Boomers"

What would attract "Boomers"?

First, only a small percent of people go to vegas with any concept of Gambling Odds...So better odds would only attract a very small portion of people...Most likely the demographic they least want to attract...frugal gamblers.

If they specifically want to target 'Boomers' they could do even more entertainment focused on performers from the 60's and 70's.

Instead of just targeting Boomers, my short run answer to the doldrums in Vegas is to pick a month and have a massive Remember Vegas Sale. They do whatever it takes from a price point to try to fill the entire inventory...for a month. This may mean free rooms at Vegas Club or $30 rooms at MGM or $70 at Cosmopolitan. Whatever it takes to fill the rooms...ALL the rooms. Work with the airlines for reduced rates and work with the rental car companies so they don't jack up the prices....

If they could fill up Vegas for a month (regardless of what they make on the rooms), it could just be the pump-priming they need to get the local economy going again. Anyway, it would beat the hell out of closing down more hotels.

I like this idea. Hype the hell out of it, give it a cool name and fill Vegas up for a month. Avoid sounding desperate, market it as a month long party. A jump start is worth a shot, right now it feels like a slow death.

Well played.

You NEVER had a right to take weapons and explosives onto an airplane. You never had a RIGHT to kill another person. How much more clear could THAT be???

Sounds like jealosy to me. What's your IQ? 60? We don't KNOW how many attacks would have succeeded without the TSA. We never will.

Sorry to interrupt --- go back to your National Enquirer and your sound bites.

More sound bites...Seems to me we have just been very lucky....
I don't see TSA security as a deterrent to flying. That is just silly.

You dont fly much! Its a god dam joke what they are doing....

I've been flying about once a month for the past 2 years. People like to whine and complain but all the planes I'm on have been quite full.
Personally , I think that most of the people that come to Vegas on a regular basis DO know that they can get better odds elsewhere, but they come anyway. Why? Because it is just not the same as going to an Indian casino or even staying onBoulder Highway,or any other outlying area.People want that "on the strip" sense of excitement and vibe.In the short term, the odds being better elsewhere really don't matter unless you are a hardcore gambler.
Sometimes you just want to GET away from the hum drum of every day life, drink a little too much, act a little crazy, and escape. The poor economy with much less disposable income is the main reason people are not coming,or spending less when they do come. Bob

Bob,

I agree, in fact I think that very few understand the odds. What they do understand and notice is how much time the average $20 bill lasts. Those that have been regulars get a feel for this and for how much play they are getting for a giving amount of gambling money per trip. As the house edge increases, they feel it and eventually they get to a tipping point where the cost of this entertainment is too high. Couple that with the fewer good deals, cheap eats and rooms and pretty soon they decide that "it isn't as good as it was in the old days" and they stop coming.

Vegas needs to take all their money slower.
