Any thoughts and /or opinions on the new Toyota/Camry Hybrid

Looking at cars and this one interested me.
Yeah , Buy AMERICAN ! Bob
Toyota is always a popular choice.....here is what Edmunds has to say:

The Camry Hybrid's high fuel economy and comfortable cabin make an appealing combination, but there are multiple rivals that match or better the Toyota in certain ways. The 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid gets incrementally better fuel economy and also feels a little more responsive from behind the wheel, while the Honda Accord Hybrid boasts segment-leading fuel economy and spirited driving dynamics of its own. Then there's the reinvented 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, which matches the Ford's efficiency and entices with its sharp styling and modern-looking, high-tech interior.
Camry is the most American made car you can buy.

My suggestion is to seek HONEST opinions about what it takes to achieve that high fuel economy, i.e. what is the down side to keeping it charged (any of them). How does that work on long trips? Are there sufficient charging stations on the open road? Will size matter? (Ha) How does the long term maintenance cost balance out?

It's a hybird - you don't have to plug it in - the motor and the regenerative braking recharge the battery. Only the purely electric vehicles have to be plugged in to keep them charged.
Another hybrid that has gotten excellent reviews from the automotive press is the new Chevy Malibu hybrid.

Perhaps so but Toyota has been making hyrbrids for many years and I think they are further along on getting the bugs irons out.

Actually, Chevy took most of the tech from their Volt and used that in the Malibu. Toyota has been making hybrids longer, but I'd give the Malibu a shot. We drove one a couple of months ago - nice car. But make/model is really such a personal decision, and I'm sure you wouldn't go wrong with the Toyota, or the Honda, or probably most of the hybrids on the market now.
Another few things to check. The Camry actually has a spare tire. The others basically give you a can of fix-a-flat. Honda did not have a pass-through in the trunk. The trunk in the Ford was not the best use of space. Note: these apply to the hybrids. I have also heard that the Ford entertainment system wasn't the easiest to use.
