Anybody have any details on the Shooting in DC today?

Passive agressive, trolling behavior at its worst.

If you have a thought, and you do, just say it.

Actually DonDiego was curious as to why the topic hadn't arisen on LVA; the news channels had been covering it non-stop all day.

Anyway, The New York Times has identified the deceased shooter:

"HOUSTON — Aaron Alexis, 34, the man killed by police officers and identified as the gunman in the deadly rampage at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, served his country as a Navy reservist, had an abiding interest in Buddhism and Thai culture, and had problems with the law, records and interviews show."

It seems he's occasionally discharged a firearm under conditions ranging from "accidental" to "strange" for quite a while.

Yes, the shooter had previos issues before yesterday. seem that mot too long ago he had shot up a neighbors car. It seems that he claimed he blacked out during these fits of rage. Of course it has domiated the news up here.

There is always an excuse.....
This all could have been avoided if everyone else there had a gun...with armor piercing bullets....and a 20 round clip....and a silencer.

pjstroh needs to come up with a different solution.

The District of Columbia bans private ownership of armor piercing bullets, 20 round magazines, and silencers.

__The U.S Government permits ownership of armor piercing rounds, but bans manufacture within the U.S. or importation into the U.S., . . . so availability has become a problem. States may impose additional restrictions.

__The U.S. Government requires registration of privately-owned silencers. States may impose additional restrictions.
Don't worry. Wayne LaPierre is working round the clock to address those pesky laws and move towards the solution I mentioned. I feel safer already.
Clearly we need to arm the Navy.
Actually, prior to 1993, certain officers were required to carry a firearm. I was one of them and I'm a pretty good shot (requalified every 6 months under FBI shooting guidelines). It would have been much better than trying to hide or run away as he was shooting the coworkers. (The was a Clinton ruling on firearms restrictions at military bases). Of course, the same held true for Ft. Hood.
