For those that do not have unlimited use, is it still worth it? I was stil looking at a Nook and Fire myself.

Ipads come in 2 configurations: wifi and wifi + 3g
Wifi uses a wireless router. You might already have one in your house if you have a router. If not, they cost about $60 and a few hours of head-banging to get it work securely. Maybe you can get lucky and it will work for you securely easily. If you live in the boondocks, you probably don't need to worry about wireless security so much as the signal goes about 30 yards and you can use it open without security. Starbucks, diners, libraries and other places offer a free wifi connection. If you have a wireless router or use the wifi at a Starbucks or wherever, there is no extra charge for the ipad.
3g is the data plan for a cell phone. It costs money and lets you access the internet from your ipad wherever you can get a 3g signal from a cell phone tower. This is most everywhere in a populated area. This costs money and is slower than wifi. For my use, I don't need this. The ipad will be used at home and if it travels, I won't need to access the internet.
