Are drawn cards in video poker already pre determined?

Arc, if your info about age is correct, then I am going to suggest that a lot of machines in use at Ballys use the sequential method. This is because as older machines are moved out of Caesars they go to Bally's. (Yes, this makes no difference in how we play, I just mention it as a point of information and discussion.)

Once again, if they are older machines and don't have the Game King series designation then they probably are using the sequential method. Some machines may have a copyright symbol as well which could provide a date.

10+ years is a long time and even the "old" Caesar's machines may be new enough.

BTW, one of the casinos I play at ahve machines dated 1992 and they do use the sequential method. How do I know? They will pay off certain machine problems (like held cards turning off at draw). However, they check to make sure the deal would have provided the desired result and they use the sequential method to determine it.

Machines more than 10 years old (before the game king series) had the top 10 cards fixed at initial deal with replacement cards taken in sequence (called sequential method). Machines over 20 years old used the shadow method (also called parallel method).

Note, this pertains to IGT machines which are about 90% of all VP machines. Not much is known about other machines, however, I've heard they all now use continuous shuffle.

Thanks for all the replies. So what's the shadow method (also called parallel method)?

Rob
That was when 5 cards were dealt out right behind the 5 you see. Whatever you discard was replaced by the card that was sitting behind it.
But to be clear, Rob, it doesn't matter. As Arc stated, a small technical difference might matter here and there. But it doesn't change the way VP is played, and it's unlikely to change your results in any meaningful way. Don't be put off by the sarcasm in some of the replies, they're just having some fun.

An analogy can be drawn to the game of blackjack. We all know the dealer uses one shoe to hold the decks, but it wouldn't matter if the dealer used two or three shoes. (Except it would slow the game down a bit, and the dealer might get more of that carpel tunnel thing).

Class 2 machines are not legal in Nevada but are used in some other states. That is all that matters to the player. With a Class 2 machine, the outcome of the hand is determined by something other than a random draw from a deck of 52 virtual cards.

Assuming it is not a Class 2 machine, the proper application of lucky glitter, when performed with the correct incantations, overrides all systems. A pause of the proper length before drawing is a key part of the ritual.
I usually pause before hitting the draw key when a significant draw is possible. During this draw I pray.

When I hold three aces, I pray hard.

When I hold four to the royal, I pray very hard.

When I hold four to the royal and the progressive is really, really big, I pray and promise to give up VP if, dear Lord, you give me this one.

In casinos, like in Churches and Synagogues, and other houses of Worship, people pray. But in casinos, we really mean it.
Hey arci

I just read that in Minnesota it is illegal for any poker machine to have greater than a 98% payback. So how is it that u claim your a winner year in and year out.
I've never seen Arc "claim" it. He does respond to questions.

I've heard Tina is illegal, so I don't understand why there's so many tweakers. Can you enlighten me?

It's easy for me to claim I'm a winner since it's the truth. However, you are also right in your statement about MN restricting paybacks to 98%. I've mentioned it many times myself. So, you need to dig ...

First of all I spent several winters in Las Vegas ... over 6 months for 5 of those years I've been a winner. I gambled far more hands in Vegas than in MN in those years.

Second, there are a few machines in MN that payback more than 98%. No, not just progressives which are legal, but machines that were originally approved incorrectly. These machines were grandfathered in after it was discovered that they were over 98%. Why do you think all my reported RFs are based on one game ... OEJs?

Now you know the rest of the story.
