are you getting a tax refund?

Go see the Pawn Stars (Rick, Big Hoss, The Ole Man and Chumlee) maybe they have a Vegas one.
If you're in Vegas the end of May, there's a coin/stamp/jewelry collectors show at the Imperial Palace - thought I might stop in and check it out...

I actually used it to buy some old US currency- A 1899 Black Silver Certicate dollar bill and a 1917
Washington dollar.
Anyone noticed the withholding tables are hifger this year, even though taxes are not?

Withholding is higher this year because the making work pay credit lowered withholding 2 years ago. The making work pay credit has ended so the withholdings are adjusted. However the SS withholding has been lowered to 4.2% down from 6.2%. That's right, a bankrupt program will recieve less funding further ensuring that I will see none of my money that was assured me when I retire.

The "Making Work Pay" did not end; that's why my refund was late. They gave me an extra $400 because I neglected to take the credit.
It ended this year, I believe. It was in effect for 2009 and 2010 only. Because of it, I got a "refund" for both years, even though I paid nothing in.

Nope. I had to pay 350 to both this year. Rude awakening since I usually get back 2k.
My husband called me today at work and said our taxes were done-yay! But we owe $1000 for federal and $250 for state! We've never owed before! I had a $2,500 jackpot last year in Atlantic city so I knew we probably wouldn't get anything back but I sort of thought it would just even out. My husband does a lot with stocks and stuff like that so he must have made more money on that than I thought. Sucks too b/c we leave for Vegas next week-less money to take...

For what it's worth, the idea is that you'll go out and spend that extra money to buy stuff, thereby increasing demand and stimulating the economy. Virtually every (non uber-lefty, with no partisan agenda) economist in the world will tell you that that's a more efficient way to pump money into the economy and create jobs than the government using the same amount of money for their purposes, which have a higher overhead and more cash lost in the process.

Or you'd save it or pay down debt, thereby doing your part to keep interest rates low which also help the economy in its fledgling recovery.

To answer the OP - yes, got a decent sized one, and throwing it on the pile.
Every year I get a federal refund and squander it all paying the state taxes.
Got our federal return a few weeks ago and bought a new king sized bed and new cabinet doors for the kitchen. Still waiting for my state return. Hopefully will receive it before our Vegas trip in 27 days.
Nope, have to pay the man!
