Rick, the Civil War always has been more important to OSU than us. Historically -- or least in the 30+ years I've been in the Ducks' camp -- we always looked far more to the UW game as our yearly contest. Now, for a series of changes over the past 15 or so years, the focus has changed.
I think you just outlined what happened when we played the natty. Who knows how that Auburn team stacks up to 'Bama '12 -- I'd think favorably -- but I know we have better personnel, particularly the guy taking the snaps. Damn, the Tide is tough though.
Guess for once I'm starting to warm to the playoff idea. You gotta play 'em out on the field because the comparisons don't work ... I beat you, you beat him, he beat me. Given what we did to AZ and what AZ did to SC, then we shoulda beat SC 112-3?
That's interesting info about the Civil War. It reminds me of Texas and Texas A&M (when they were in the same conference). Texas is THE huge rivalry game for them. However, Oklahoma is the number 1 rival for Texas and that's not just an old school line of thinking. When I teach summer courses with kids home from various universities, I like to ask the Texas students who their number 1 rival is. 100% of them said OU. I won't be asking them anymore since it is a moot point.
Well Ken, I guess that I won't be able to tease you about becoming a USC fan for one week. With Alabama's loss, I don't think that Oregon can be denied if they win out.
