Yep and your buddy B Hussein could have avoided the whole thing by leaving troops on the ground...
Until...forever! - just like they said about Vietnam.
Or maybe we should stick to nation-building in America.
OR....How about like we did in Japan. There's a great example for you.
Think what Vietnam would be like today if we had stayed and helped the pro democracy Vietnamese...
The Nike factory would be twice as big? The Ho Tram Strip casino would have 9/6 Jacks or Better VP - with NO resort fee? Details please! And what, it would have only cost another 60,000 American and a million Vietnamese lives - totally worth it, right?
And who told you that the Vietnam War was about democracy? The US cancelled Vietnam's elections in 1954 because we didn't like the probable winner. Then to run the country, we sided with the tiny minority of Vietnamese who were French-speaking Catholics who had sided with the French in the Vietnam war of independence. And then when we got tired of our hand-picked President Diem, the CIA helped assassinate him. Can't you just smell the democracy?
And the United States was always happy to support dictators who oppressed, tortured, and murdered their citizens. We overthrew a democratically elected leader in Iran, and installed the Shah. We supported a Fascist dictator in Spain who came to power with support from Adolf Hitler. We supported all manner of war criminals in South America. And let's not forget about our support of Saddam.
The United States has NEVER had a problem with governments that oppressed its people. The United States had a problem with governments that oppressed Standard Oil and United Fruit Company. If Ho had allowed capitalism, the US wouldn't have peeped if he had ordered his military to throw live human beings out of helicopters, just like Kissinger's BFF, Augusto Pinochet.
And cowboy, since you imagine yourself a student of history (Ha!), why don't you research the history of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan? Or the French in Vietnam? Or the French in Iraq? Or the British in Iraq? Or the British in South Africa? Or the story of Hanukkah? Or the American Revolutionary War?
Occupying forces eventually lose, because they deserve to.
