Bamas jumps Tommy Trojan

No biggie. Bama should've been preseason #1 anyway. Actually, no one should be preseason anything. How about letting teams get a bit into conference play before releasing the polls?!
When was the last time a team won by 39 and lost ground in the rankings?

While I think Alabama has an outstanding team, I think Michigan was way overrated. If you look deeper into their record last year and who they played, you will see that the 10 and 2 season (eventually 11 and 2) wasn't as spectacular as it sounds.
interesting... could make for some funny headlines.

Yes, Hawaii was SOLID. lol

According to the AP, #1 has won and fallen 86 times, including every year since 2007. Not sure of the spreads but Figueroa Tech did it to preseason #1 Georgia in 2008.

You seem good at glossing over things. Yes Number 1 has fallen when they have played ugly. Number 1 hasn't fallen that often when they won by 39 points.

Oh, homer, homer, homer ...

Let's just go with the Big 10, so to say, and I hope you're cool with 30+ spreads:

Florida beat NM State by 49 and dropped to a Huskers team that had a bye!
Army beat Harvard by 49 and dropped
ND beat NW by 49 and dropped
Tennessee beat Washington & Lee by 46 and dropped
OU beat Iowa State by 44 and dropped
Ol Miss beat Houston by 40 and dropped
Bama beat Tulane by 38 and dropped
OU beat Tulsa by 37 and dropped
Penn State beat Louisville by 36 and dropped
Miami beat Troy by 31 and dropped
As usual our felon following Kenny doesn't give us everything.

Hmmm? Since 1997. That would make it around 15 years. That doesn't sound like a common occurence to me.

USC becomes the first No. 1 ranked team to win a game by more than 35 points and fall from the top spot in the AP poll since Penn State in 1997. Penn State beat Louisville, 57-21, and fell to No. 2. That same week, Florida jumped from No. 3 to No. 1 with a 33-20 win at fourth-ranked Tennessee.

Keep digging, homer!!

Okay. If you insist.

From the same article:

In fact, the last two times a No. 1 fell after winning by more than 35 points, it was Penn State who fell. In 1994, the Lions fell to No. 2 after a 63-14 win over No. 21 Ohio State. No. 3 Nebraska beat No. 2 Colorado, 24-7, and jumped to No. 1, which was significant, as Penn State would finish undefeated, but without a share of the national title (which was won by Nebraska).

The only No. 1 to win their opener by more than 35 and fall from No. 1 was Florida in 1994. The Gators beat New Mexico State, 70-21, and fell to No. 2 behind Nebraska. Nebraska had shut out No. 24 West Virginia 31-0 the previous week in the Kickoff Classic.
Does any of this really matter until the middle of October anyway? It's just a game of ranking teams now on who has BEEN GOOD and the media hype they get!
