Bank of America customers:

You may want to check your accounts. My Mom was looking at her account and found they charged her a 12.00 maintenance fee even though it says that the kind of account she has the fee will be waived it you have least one deposit a month of 250.00 dollars or more.

She called them up and they removed the fee but I thought I would warn everyone.
Suntrust tried the same crap with us once. Gotta watch those sneaky bastards ,er,bankers.

J
Thanks for the tip. Most of us don't watch carefully enough to catch $5 or $10 here and there. It's something we tell ourselves to do, but don't do.

I'll start checking mine.

The telephone company overcharged me $40, and THAT, I caught.
it pays to check.
I called my cable company cuz my bill say "Multiple DVRs".
I have one. Caught ya!!

Whats the fuss? Somebody has to pay for those 7 figure bonuses to the execs.

Communists like me dont have this issue. We bank at credit unions.
Well worth checking you bank accounts on-line on a regular or daily basis. Don't wait for the monthly paper snail mail statement.
I'll tell you something, I deal with B of A, and I question some of their practices regarding fees. And believe me, they aren't the only ones that have shady fees. If you are close to being at a zero balance, and it doesn't even have to be that low, I would suggest that you either screen print your account, or at least print out that days statement. You especially have to watch those "processing" transaction because those are the ones that can get you into trouble. I make withdrawals and debits based on what they show as my balance. Yesterday, I had a $198 balance when I was at the bank, and withdrew $100 from the ATM. During the day, I had added $131 to the account giving me a balance of $229. I made purchases and withdrawals of $228.33. When I opened up my account today, I was $269 overdrawn! WTF!!! Somehow these "processing" charges exceeded what I had in my account even though they had been taken out before. I had this problem once before, but somehow it corrected itself the next day. Fortunately, I had made a copy of the previous days statement and things better straighten themselves out.

When I was dealing with U.S, Bank years ago, I had a situation where they paid a $100 charge and over drafted two other charges that could have been paid instead of the $100 charge. This way they received 2 $35 over drafts instead of bouncing the $100 check. When I asked them about this, 2 different managers said the exact same thing, which means they are trained to give this standard answer. "Well what if it was your mortgage payment?" I asked them, "When's the last time you saw a mortgage payment of $100?" Banks are total scammers and should rank right up there with those emails you get from Nigeria!

There should be a law that the fees that they charge CAN'T exceed the amount of the over draft! I had one banker tell me that they ONLY can over draft 5 charges. 5 CHARGES? THAT EQUALS $175 in fees. How greedy does a bank have to get? ONLY 5 OVER DRAFTS! Like they're doing you a favor by charging you ONLY 5 over drafts! Something has to be done about these banks and their fees!
Don't know if BoA still does this but I know they used to do this:

Say you hand a balance of 50 bucks in the bank and you had the following transactions come in:

1500 dollar direct deposit

550 dollar debit

10 dollar debit

It doesnt matter if the 1500 dollar direct deposit came in first they would do the debits first and charge you a overdraft fee and then put the direct deposit thru.

That's why they make them pending transactions first. I have heard that they have been sued several times over this.

Bagiant you are right they are scammers and crooked bastards. I have alot of money going in and out so I do check my balance daily. I don't trust them one bit.
Same crap here in Canada - but they back right off when you call them on it!
