Banks/legal thievery

I can remember back when we struggled and stumbled on occasion when we were starting out. I remember getting so pissed off at the occasional overdrafts, not when I knew I had done it but when the bank did unfairly, all to collect their huge O/D fees.I remember one time when my bank bounced a 7 or 8 dollar check when I had made a deposit so it was pending, and had a balance of 6 bucks or something, I was furious. The people who can least afford are the ones getting whacked so hard. I fully understand that banks need to charge something but damn, they really squeeze the sh!t out of folks. Shoulda let some of the bastards go ahead and fail.

"As important as it is for banks to protect their customers from hackers and data breaches, sometimes the biggest threat out there is the bank itself.

In a new study of checking account practices at 50 of the nation’s largest banks and credit unions, the Pew Charitable Trusts found that banks are still employing shady practices that can take a bite out of customers’ balances.

Half of big banks are still reordering consumer transactions from highest amount to lowest, making it easier to inadvertently overdraw an account, up from 47% last year. This chart shows just how costly transaction reordering can be in a hypothetical scenario:

1+1=2 Don't write checks for money you don't have. Simple.
I dont need to understand the example.
There's already about a 1000 existing examples that bear out the "scumbag bank" premise.
And today Skank of America just settled another lawsuit for just under a billion dollars.

Just once I'd like to see the government forego a settlement and make an example out
of one of these institutions.

Not perfect, but it works. If you use AdBlock Plus you can right click on the image and then select "block image" at the bottom and it will go away.

And I'd guess that the next version of this forum, which will probably be ready sometime in February, will scroll images like that.
Chilcoot I am sure you get the gist of it, sometimes think you are better off putting your money in a mattress. Better than paying the fees and getting .1% interest.

Perfect, thank you!
