See, now here's the deal: Ben, and the other founding fathers, knew that folks would be parsing their words for centuries to come.

Q: How do you know that they knew that?

So, knowing that, I'm guessing that's why they wrote the arcane stuff that they did.

Therefore, I'm pretty sure that what Ben was actually thinking was much more like your first quotation.

Only a mean, mean person would attempt however slily to politicize a beer post.
