Bellagio Upgrade?

Has anyone actually received an upgrade at the bellagio by tipping the desk clerk?
I have always found the best way to get an upgrade anywhere is to look right at them and smile while asking,"so, what are upgrades looking like today?" If they quickly respond about the costs of an upgrade, I doubt a tip would get you one. If they come back with something like, "hmmm, let's see what we have", they most likely will take the tip.
The tip routine has been successful for us quite a few times there. The desk clerk will usually get you at least a lakeview room, and often one of the nice corner rooms too. A suite upgrade happens much less often, usually only if the hotel is not busy with conventions & special events crowds. Mid week check in always works better than weekends for upgrades. While a smile is nice, a tip is nicer - I believe in doing both. It's worked for me over the years!
I would also like to add that you should be in appropriate attire.

I think having money out is tacky. I tip for an upgrade. Read my post again.
You either hand it to them with your ID and CC or not show it.
