Belmont Stakes

DonDiego apologizes to any reader who may have mortgaged his house and wagered on Frosted as poor old DonDiego suggested.

He counsels everyone to take such a misfortune as an important lesson with respect to human failings.
I went to Indiana grand casino, watched the race at Winners Circle OTB. I had money on AP and Frammento. the bar/OTB seemed like a nice enough facility, had a great time.

American Pharoah bettors leave $315K at the track

"...Belmont Stakes spokesman John Durso Jr. told ESPN.com that more than 94,000 $2 American Pharoah to win tickets were purchased at the track—but less than 4,000 of the winning tickets, each worth $3.50, were actually cashed.

The state of New York stands to collect the winnings left behind by the gamblers, according to the ESPN report. Listings on eBay for the winning tickets are already asking for much more than they are worth, some seeking as much as $100 per ticket..."
I understand the concept of keeping the ticket you yourself bet on the Triple Crown Winner.
A souvenir and all that.

But I don't understand why anyone would someone else's ticket. What is the point?

Was there ever a winning Secretariat ticket that came up for auction?
Or for any other Triple Crown Winner?

Inquiring minds want to know.

YES.

A quick search on eBAY shows several tickets for Secretariat.

And bunches for American Pharoah that are pretty expensive for a "set".

I did a rough calculation after noting that American Pharoah and Secretariat both ran on a "fast" track. Secretariat would have beaten Pharoah by 18 lengths.

Interesting. So someone might buy them, say on e-bay, and try to flip them?
