Best ANTI VIRUS and malware for laptop

OKAY I ordered a new laptop. I have AVG on the old one and Comodo firewall.
What do you all use or recomend? I HATE NORTion and went to Best Buy and they total have become dweebs. I had a guy try to tell me Nortion was the one to have. I was staring at him," If that is so they have been hacked several times and never changed the code keys" I replied. The sales person looked at me and said," Well that is true they have been, multiple." SOoooo you are telling me you want to sell me a product that is not what it lives up too? Aparently yes, I shook my head.
WTH has even their selection gone? Then you try to sell me a item that has issues and then stare at me when I call you on it.

So all you techy folks , what do you use?
I'm not a tech nerd but my sond friend who is hooked me up with avast. I had another techno nerd say the same thing.

Microsoft Security Essentials is free, and we've always been virus and malware free on several computers.
I was, and still am a believer that MOST of the AV programs are similar enough, and protective enough, that for many years now I have been using the "FREE" one. AVG on every computer, except for a very brief period of 1 year when I received the Norton-Semantec free.

On my "main" computer, I am running AVG. For more than a decade total, and never had a problem. My firewall choice Zone Alarm.

On my newest laptop, which I am not using yet, except for a little surfing, I've gone with Windows Essentials. I also am trying their firewall.

I may change up the "new" laptop, once I start using it as a principle machine. If so, it will be AVG & Zone Alarm.

I really don't think a choice between the free versions makes much difference in level of protection with today's technology.

There are some nifty "extras" in paid or subscription versions, and I do not miss them.

And don't forget that many ISP's now have built in protection, your email is scanned before downloading or viewing.

I use AVG and Malwarebytes because I've used AVG for a long time and never had a complaint.

I've seen other people "in the know" recommend Avast and Microsoft Security Essentials.
I use malwarebytes and the one from lavasoft.com.
Leo Laporte who used to be on "Screensavers" has a weekend radio show on KFI. He does not like Norton either.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Comodo Firewall, they work great for me. -Russ
I use malwarebytes for years and have never had any issues
