Best ANTI VIRUS and malware for laptop

AVG and Malwarebytes tends to be one of the best two somes out there. For extra security, throw in a dose of Zone Alarm and a hint of Spybot Search and Destroy.

Just remember, the pop up saying there is a virus on your computer by some strange company or Microsoft, likely IS the virus. Don't click it at all, not even the X on the top right. Hit <ctrl> <alt> <del> to pull up the task manager and kill the offending pop up.

These virii are the ones the type that fall between the cracks of the virus checkers and the spyware checkers. AVG tends to find these quicker than most.
I always bought whatsoever was on sale with the mail-in rebate (ie, McAfee, Norton, Kapersky, Computer Associates, etc). However upon learning of Microsoft Security Essentials for free I think I'll try that when my current subscription expires. Thanks. By the way I did get a fake Microsoft virus once. I forgot how I removed it but I found it suspicious when it conveniently provided a link in an attempt to get me to purchase their software and possibly download additional viruses. Worse than a virus though is BSOD, blue screen of death. I have had those and it's no fun. I lost one laptop to BSOD. I'm currently dealing with another BSOD on a used Dell desktop (GX 620, pentium dual core, Windows XP) that I recently got for $70 (now I know why the guy was selling so cheap). My geek friends advised me that the OS was corrupted and recommended I wipe the OS clean, which I did and installed Windows 7 instead which seems to have fixed the BSOD, I'm knocking on wood.
I didn't mention earlier about nortons software, the IT guys at my wifes work all hate norton, says it wastes a ton of space and it slows down the computer. I had an old computer(3-4) ago that i removed norton and put in mcafee and it greatly increased the speed, again, it was several yrs ago so now might be different?

I have aquestion now after reading this, even tho i have avast should i still get spybot or malware? No idea if it covers those nastys.
