Best Deal I ever came across for Cell Phone service

One of my daughters was looking for a cell phone, and she is out of work so that meant dad was buying it and paying the monthly fee lol. Of course she wanted a smart phone so I did a ton of research and found this new deal Virgin Mobile has. They have an LG Optimums V for $149.00. It is an Android 2.2 smart phone. Now the phone itself isn’t even the best part of the deal. Their plan is only $25 a month including 300 minutes of talk, unlimited data and text. Plus there are no smart phone fees or no two year contract. I got her the phone and she loves it, I like it so well I am going to replace my first generation Droid with it as it will save me about $1000 a year.

The phone is on sale the rest of this week at Target for $129.99 and you get a free $20 Target gift card, Best Buy also has them for $129.99 but you don’t get the gift card. The only problem is finding them in stock as they are selling like crazy.

The deal looks good. have a question.

$25 for plan What would it be to add my wife ? What are hidden fees if any?

Thanks for info,
Any idea what the Virgin Mobile network looks like? Are we talking Verizon-like coverage or something else? And how busy is the net?

For example, the AT&T network is so oversubscribed that when I tried to use my iPhone to log into the 'Barely 18' website, by the time I got in, the pictures were all of women in their 40s.

As far as a family plan goes it’s a per-phone fee so $25 for you and $25 for your wife. No hidden fees.

Virgin Mobile USA is now owned and operated by Sprint so your coverage and Network would be the same as the Sprint Network although you can’t get 4G on Virgin only 3G.

CNET Reviews of LG Optimus V

Just as an input here. I just looked into sprint coverage here(DC) last week, and it doesn't have coverage anywhere close to what we want.So check coverage because it is extremely limited compared to att and VZ. Other than that, ive heard good things as far as reception if you're in the zone with sprint.
That's the $64,000 question if you want a smartphone without the excessive fees. I'm wrestling with that myself. I've had Verizon for years because I needed excellent service. I live in South Jersey near Philadelphia. Now I want a smartphone but really don't want to pay Verizon's fees. Virgin Mobile and T-Mobile are less expensive but the service is spotty. Sprint maybe, but not alot cheaper than Verizon and I've had bad experience with AT&T. Plus some of the less expensive providers have a very limited selection of smartphones.
Virgin Mobile is owned by Sprint. Your coverage area is Sprints. So if Sprints is good in your area then you will have good reception on the VG phone.

I have been with VG for 6 years and just upgraded to the LG Optimus V, great phone for my needs and the $25 plus tax plan is great.
I sent Verizon an email that was going to cancel service because of this offer from Virgin Mobile . I got back a phone call and reply to email . I am getting 3 months free ,added minutes and free texting for 3 months . A savings of $180.00 over 3 months. With no contract.

Thank You
Thanks for the info Malibber. I picked up the phone at Target (last one on the shelf) for $130 and got the $20 gift card. Hopefully this service and phone is better then the garbage Cricket Wireless that i've been using the last 8 months.
I am glad some of you were able to take advantage of this even if you just used it as leverage against your existing service provider. I got my phone last night at Best Buy, and I just have to finish importing contacts. The phone is very thin which I really like, the screen isn’t quite on par with my existing Droid, but the virtual keyboard is quite an improvement over my Droids. Call quality for me is the same as my Droid’s as I can’t seem to tell a difference.

Sure if you buy a new Droid, Droid X, I phone, or Galaxy you are going to have a nicer phone in terms of camera quality and look and feel, but with most providers you are going to have to pay $200 or more for the phone and then obligate yourself to two years of servitude at the minimal rate of around $100 bucks a month. Plus, it has been my experience the phone never quite makes it to the two year mark anyway. My existing Droid is a year and half old. The proximity sensor and touch screen are going out on it causing it to at times hang up on people and at other times start making a call whenever I pick it up. I see a $129.99 phone as basically disposable if I keep it for 6 months to a year I will be happy. My total monthly fees with VM are going to be $27 a month including taxes they were $102 with Verizon, and I had the cheapest package you could get for the phone I had. So if I did my math right this is going to save me $902 a year.
Oh the phone is on sale this week at Best Buy for $129.99 again.
