Bet Your Lottery Luck Isn't As Good As this!

Unreal! On April 13 our Lotto 6/49 draw was worth just over $63 million, a record amount for this lottery. Tickets for this lottery are available all across Canada, and when this draw was done there were 4 winning tickets to split the jackpot - 1 in Alberta and 3 in British Columbia. Strange enough that all 4 of the jackpot tickets were bought here in Western Canada, but it gets even stranger! The Alberta ticket and one of the BC tickets were claimed quickly.

However, the other two winning tickets from BC remained unclaimed - until now.

Here's the really strange part - those two tickets BOTH belong to ONE guy!! Apparently, he has a habit of buying a pair of tickets with identical numbers, and it paid off big time for him!

So instead of getting a cheque for only $15.8 million dollars like the other winners, he pockets two!!

Lottery winner holds 2 winning tickets
On a similar vein, remember the largest powerball ever won by a single person here recently? Two drawings after that there were 3 (three!) winners that split 50 mil. I don't know the no. of tickets bought on each drawing, but I'd bet there were more than 12 tix bought on the half a billion dollar prize one.
Was the Florida PB winner ever announced or did they go anonymous......or have not claimed it yet?
I thought the lady from McDonald's won but couldn't find the ticket. I know that happens to me often.

Yeah whatever happen to the McDonalds lady.... likely put into the deep fry by fellow workers whos group ticket didn't win.
The recent big PB ticket was at a publix in some rinky dink town in fla.

Reminds me of the player who wanted to play his numbers the next 10 drawings and the clerk entered 10 tickets for the next drawing by mistake. The man was upset and only paid for 1 set of numbers. The numbers hit and then he is upset because he only got 1/10 of the jackpot. The clerk claimed that the store rules were that employees had to buy mistakes so was ready to buy them but the store owner said no the employee did not buy them at the end of the shift and the tickets were in the store safe so they were his. Never heard how it worked out.
I wonder how many lotteries this guy lost over the years because he kept buying duplicate losing tickets?

Gee...I don't know...but I'll bet you its considerably less than the $31.7 million he won!!!

How do you know? If he's been buying lottery tickets for 35 years as he says, he may have thrown away tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars buying duplicate losing lottery tickets, dollars he could have instead used to buy non-duplicate, potentially-winning lottery tickets.

To provide a counterpoint to the praise some want to direct towards this guy.

Getting past the idea that buying a lottery ticket can ever a good idea, can we not agree that buying multiples of the same ticket is a new level of, well, let's be generous and call it not-brightness?

Buying that second ticket did not double his winnings. Instead, it increased his win just 50%, from $21.1 million to $31.7 million. Buying that second, identical ticket reduced the win by that first ticket by $5.3 million.

By and large, lotteries are fueled by people who are really, REALLY bad at math.
