Oh we're plenty better than our enemies.

They celebrated the killing of innocents in a terrorist action.
We're celebrating justice for the 'man' responsible for that mass murder.

I'm shocked you can't see the difference.

Wholeheartedly agree with this. He at least had a chance to defend himself. What did the victims of 9/11 have?
Ok - I see SOME difference, however should we be celebrating outside the prison when Charles Manson or Ted Bundy or John Gacy are killed. The people celebrating outside the White House come from the same lineage as those who cheered at public hangings. That is not something I would be proud of.

This is absolutely NOT like those who cheered at public hangings. This is more like celebrating on VE day....it's symbolic of a victory over evil. Maybe you should try telling the Firefighters in NYC to stop cheering....because you find it unseemly.

Arab Americans celebrate the news of the death of Osama Bin Laden in Dearborn, Mich., early Monday, May 2, 2011. President Barack Obama announced Sunday night, May 1, 2011, that Osama bin Laden was killed in an operation led by the United States. (AP Photo/Carlos Osorio)
I listened to analysis on the radio this morning. Many Islamic clerics are up in arms about how Bin Laden was put to rest in the ocean. Here was the following analyis:

The toran (Sp?) states that Islamic tradition dictates a body is to be buried within 24 hours after death and is to not be embalmed.

If a person of Islamic faith dies at sea then his body is to be dumped overboard.

The problem here is that Bin Laden didn't die at sea, but there is no country that wanted to accept his body and have to bury him within 24 hours.

There was reassurance given to Saudi Arabia that the body was disposed of under the direction of a U.S. muslim cleric.

The body was actually weighted and dropped from an airplane. It was weighted with enough weight so that the body would sink quickly and not be taken by sea predators (sharks, etc.).

So to summarize, we are damned by Islamic clerics for burying him at sea because he didn't die on the sea, but we would also be damned if he had been buried on land because it would have taken more than 24 hours.

We sometimes are too caring. This guy was in Hitler's league and we shouldn't have given a damn if his body was wrapped in pig skins and dragged through the streets.

Too bad they did not bring him back alive and then hung him in the middle of Time Square. I think that would have been the proper justice.

I sure hope that this not considered a political thread as I think we should all celebrate the killing of this sorry bastard.

I think it would be classified as "world events".
This subject is completely political. In fact, Obama and McCain took opposite sides in a presidential debate in late September, 2008. Obama claimed that he would go into Pakistan to kill Osama bin Laden without necessarily getting permission or even informing the Pakistan government. McCain said that position showed inexperience, and compared it to military disasters in Somalia and Lebannon. And on the Larry King show in July 2008, McCain said, "Larry, I'm not going to go there and here's why: because Pakistan is a sovereign nation."

In this case, President Obama got the "3 AM phone call" and made his choice. On the other hand, in response to 9/11 President Bush chose to de-emphasize our efforts in AfPak, and instead invade Iraq. Both decisions were political. And one decision was much better than the other.

I am also glad he finally paid for his actions. However, the celebrations outside the White House and Times Square looked chillingly like the celebrations in the Muslim world after 9-11. It saddens me to see the people in the USA to be no better than our enemies.

I dont agree that its the same. But I do worry that those celebrations have different implications around the world. We see them and cheer. People in Suadi Arabia may see them and jeer. We should not hide our joy at this event...but we must also realize that those celebrations may be used to incite further recruitments and violence. I would not want to be a US Soldier patroling the streets of Kabul today.
I don't feel "joy"
Terrorism won't stop but the tapes of Osama leading the infidels war cry against us will.
War isn't done.

and Pakistan has some 'splainin' to do
I heard that one of Osama's wives identified him to the Navy Seal team. "Hell hath no fury...."
