Binions to reopen its hotel?

Rumor has it that Binions is remodeling it's rooms and will reopen this summer.
I miss the coffee shop more than the hotel. Maybe that will open too.
Hope they do,
A few weeks ago I was staying DT and went into Binions to check any comp balance on my card
since I havn't played there since my last stay there which was several years ago and the boothling
said you have $5.00 in cash and $31.00 in comps to be spent anywhere in the property, she said
do you want your cash, yes and off to the cage with a slip and $5.00 was handed to me, later on I went
to the Bullpen with a buddy ordered up food and drinks to spend the comp dollars. Had I not checked
I would have been out this. Apparently their points dont expire.
I have never really gambled much there as the place always seems kinda empty and I didnt care for the vibe. But I think on my next trip I will sign up for a players card and give them some play.

They sure are posting lots of winners on their facebook page.

In 2009, over my 5-6 trips and 55 nights I usually stayed at Binion's. Naturally, I became friendly with hotel staff and manager. They has already remodeled 3-4 of their "mini-suites" than, but were not renting them out. I was invited to tour them.

I was told at that time that all the rooms were going to be remodeled. I was led to believe, before their closing the hotel, that the reason was for the remodel.

However, since than, I recall reading somewhere that there is some sort of dispute with the hotel owners, a seperate entity from the casino, and the reason the hotel was closed.

I've no clue what the true untold story is.

I was satisfied with "my" price of $19.16 during the week, and usually scavenged for a comp Fri-Sat at the 4Q's, Plaza, etc, than back to Binions for the remainder of my trip. And by the third trip, I was getting free upgrades to a "mini-suite" anyway. Not that I needed an upgrade, since I don't spend much time in a room, and when I do, it's usually sleeping. I liked the place, and certainly would like to see them reopen.

But, I don't expect that to happen any time soon. ::: shrug :::

They also were having some difficult issues on one hotel side (not sure which is the Mint & which is Binion's, it was the one on the east side) with pipes and electric. I was told it needed major work.

Is Binion's Steak House still going strong? They had the best steaks in town when Benny owned it. They used to be down by the coffee shop, but then took over the Tower when they took over the Mint. They slaughtered and aged their steaks from Benny's ranch in Montana, and you couldn't get a better steak in town. They didn't even serve you steak knives as the meat was so tender. Had one of the best views of Vegas when you were eating at the tower. You couldn't get a bad piece of meat there. I remember coming into Vegas on night to see Faye, and I told her if I won $60, we would go to eat there. well, I hit a 4OAK at the Sahara on DB, and we were out the door to eat there. She loved her escargot which they served there, and I loved to watch her eat it. The steaks were absolutely unbelievable, and the view was spectacular. Boy I wish I could back to those days.

They also had a deli by the sports book where they hand carved the corned beef and pastrami. Didn't get much better than that.
The steak house is still going strong...it's my wife's favorite place in town. As well as mine....filets so tender, you can cut them with a fork. Good pours on the drinks as well.

Rumors on the rooms are, well, just rumors.
Hmmm...thats good to know....ill have to check mine next week.
Do you need to make reservations or can you just walk in? If you walk in how long is the wait? I'd like to try the steak dinne rat Binion's, Magnolia's or the Flame on our next trip. Which is the best?

Reservations - depends on the night, and where. Most times that my wife and I have eaten at any of those three, there's been no more than a 45 minute wait, if any at all. But, we generally don't go on busy weekends.

Each of the restaurants are quite different. As far as atmosphere in my opinion, Binion's has the most intimate atmosphere.....dark red walls, floor-to-ceiling windows, dim lights, great views, very "classic Vegas" feel to it. Magnolia's is a coffee shop, and while good, really isn't in the same class. Hugo's in the Four Queens is classy, but well lit and loud, in a cellar...kind of a place to see and be seen. The Flame is good, but more of a well-lit big room in the middle of the building.....not the same sort of atmosphere as Binion's or Hugo's.

Of the four I mentioned, I like Binion's the best. Sit by the windows as the sun goes down over the mountains, and watch the strip light up in the distance.
