Bleky L293

I have not been around as of late, work has been draining and a nightmare. But on to the good stuff ASIDE from needing to get to Vegas. We adopted a Ret Military Working Dog last Nov the weekend of Veteran's Day. Please meet Bleky L293, he was a SSD. His job was to find IEDs and explosives. He has done more then 2 tours to Iraq, thus sometime in service a back injury with surgery and to retirement. But he is loved by the labs and his family now. He is a gentle giant, and we wanted to share. Happy retirement Bleky!

What a beauty -I'm sure that you will not regret that choice!

That is very awesome of you. Can dogs like this "retire" or are they always looking for something helpful to do? Maybe you could hid a couple firecrackers in the backyard and see if he can find them?
What a great story. I'm envious. He is going to be a family member and have fun with him.

Good looking pooch, er veteran. How old is Bleky?

We got a few people here he could bite in the ass!

Snidely, yes he still "works". When we go anywhere he has to be first in. His job was to go 25 meters ahead of the formation off leash to search. He is "de programed" to the best of their ability but he will always work. I never have him off leash other then in the house or our fenced yard. We had to drive to Texas to get him, 90 % of the handlers adopt them and then military families and then if luck civilians. About 300 a year retire or as young wash out. Mr MLLV is military, there was a 18 month wait. That is generally pretty close, 18-24 mos, extensive adoption application and you have to make sure you can care for them. They are to be inside dogs, many have medical issues and many have PTSD. Some are deaf, a friend's dogs was burned in Iraq and retired .

No young children are allowed in the adoptive household either. Ill try to have more pics, he also has his own FB page.
Bleky was retired at 6 1/2 cause of injury. He just had his 7th B day in Dec.
That is such a cool and heartwarming story. Congratulations on your new family member!
OMg we love him so much, the labs act like they had never been separated at birth. Plus we love informing people there are dogs doing work that would take humans so much longer, every dog is estimated to save 150 soldiers.

He gets so many hugs from us and the labs. He is a proud dog, when we go out he always holds his head high.
