American Airlines merger expected next week

Sweet, when they finally merge their mileage programs it will give over over 167,000+ miles with one carrier .

Just like the oil companies, we are going to get stuck with higher prices. Why doesn't Congress stop all this BS before it gets worse?

Increased prices,merged routes,fewer non stops from the east coast,and having to fly AMRs old MD80s!

I agree competition is good and with less options us consumers are the ones being screwed.

Any of you remember the air fare wars of the 1980s when you could fly NY to MIA for $79 and cross country for $99 with NO advance purchase and NO penalty if you cancel and NO extra charge for a carry on AND you got a meal and a blanket and a pillow without paying extra?

Let's count the airlines that went out and with them took away the competition...

Pan Am
Air Florida
Northeastern
Braniff
Continental
Capitol
Frontier
Jet Express
Mohawk
National
New York Air
Ozark
People Express
Texas Air
Tower Air

Each of those airlines contributed to the biggest price cuts in the biggest air fare wars after deregulatioin.

I believe Frontier is still in business.

Didn't we go through a period a number of years ago when the government was forcing companies to deregulate because competion was good for the consumer?Now we are seeing just the opposite.

So the old American-West airline that consumed USAir might become another American airline?

Our Charlotte USAir hub seems excited for this deal to happen.
