Please stop being ignorant. Joe Biden in 1992:

"Therefore I stand by my position, Mr. President, if the President consults and cooperates with the Senate or moderates his selections absent consultation, then his nominees may enjoy my support as did Justices Kennedy and Souter."
President Obama “regrets” filibustering the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito in 2006, his top spokesman said Wednesday, though he maintains that the Republican opposition to his effort to replace Justice Antonin Scalia is unprecedented.

“That is an approach the president regrets,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said. Source "thehill.com"

Goose/gander. Pot meet kettle.

I think it's a mistake. Republicans should hold months of hearings then vote. Maybe they're trying to trick the President into nominating an originalist.

Hell of a difference. Alito got a committee hearing and a floor vote. Obama attempted a filibuster just as Cruz would likely attempt. In the end Alito got a vote and was confirmed. Republicans are refusing to do that. If that is the way Republicans want it, I think Democrats should refuse to move forward any nominee if the Republicans win the Presidential election.

So ecomstoc, what you're saying is that after holding hearings and considering the nominee, the Republicans should feel justified in voting against a nominee that they disapprove of, including using the filibuster.

I bet you didn't mean to say that.

Silly boy. I wish you had the courage and conviction to give the full story, but then look who I'm talking to.

But in a speech on the Senate floor in June 1992, Mr. Biden, then the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said there should be a different standard for a Supreme Court vacancy “that would occur in the full throes of an election year.” The president should follow the example of “a majority of his predecessors” and delay naming a replacement, Mr. Biden said. If he goes forward before then, the Senate should wait to consider the nomination.
On behalf of Democrat candidates running for Senate in OH, PA, NH, FL, WI, MI, CO, IL, IN, IA, and NV I say, "Thank you!
