Brilliant Republican Healthcare Solution: Don’t Take Children With Broken Bones To The ER

If I had my way, the deficit would be gone.

Actually, you've said the opposite. Requiring people to buy health insurance and pay their own way was a provision of Obamacare that you and every self-described conservative objected too....at least when President Obama blessed it. Prior to that it was a staple of Republican Healthcare reform .

And that's also why Republicans are struggling to find an alternative now. Democrats implemented their idea...and now they got nothing.
PJ - the Republicans are against a big government solution --- as these "solutions" typically fail miserably. Instead of all the complexity of the ACA, why not block grant the money to the states for medicaid programs to cover those who are below the poverty line and those who cannot obtain commercial insurance? Let the insurance market work across state lines and eliminate "requirements" like abortions and ED pills from "government approved" insurance programs. Let people choose, and let market competition drive prices DOWN rather than having government regulation and subsidy drive prices UP.

States can buy insurance across borders now...that's a decision the ACA leaves to the states. SOme are doing it. And there has been no noticeable savings in cost. But if it makes Republicans feel better to make this dynamic mandatory for all states - then fine by me. That would seem to run contrary to the GOP motto of giving more power to the states.

I don't know if you remember the free market health insurance system we had before Obama socialized it in 2009. My recollection is it wasn't very cheap, ethical, or generally approved of by the public. I hope Republicans have something more than "state line free market" . I fear they don't. I don't think they've thought anything through yet. Lets hope they do before they toss 20 million people under the bus.

You are wrong. I have ALWAYS argued that the government should never force citizens to buy any product. This certainly includes insurance. Once again, able bodied citizens should not be getting free shit, nor should they be forced to buy insurance.
