Bringing Cuban Cigars into U.S.

I've been working out of the country since September. One of the self indulgences I've allowed myself has been Cuban cigars. The price is relatively cheap and they are extremely mild. Has anyone on this board had any experience with bringing Cuban cigars into the country? We're talking fewer than a dozen.
Many times and always without incident. However, understand that in the eyes of the law, you are doing something illegal. I suspect the gravest recourse is just confiscation but just understand that this is a risk.

You may do yourself a favor and remove the bands....at that point it would be difficult for Customs to say that it was a Cuban cigar.

As an aside, I've never generally found Cuban cigars to be "mild"; in fact, just the opposite. I'm more a DR cigar (say Fuente 8-5-8) for during the day and a cuban (Partagas Serie D #4) for a night time smoke. If I have a Cuban during the day, I feel a bit high for a while. Just my take....

I used to bring them over from Canada all the time when I lived near the border. That was before the broder was tightened up after 911. I never got searched but the unspoken rule that I understood via word of mouth (whatever thats worth) was the authorities looked the other way if it was a personal amount. They only cracked down if it looked like you bought enough to be a seller. But, again, I never got searched.

On a slightly different tangent....much like French Champaign I belive Cuban Cigars to be overratted. Most of the best makers left the country decades ago and the soil isn't as rich as it sed to be. If you read
Cigar Aficionado they dont rank Cuban cigars any higher than the ones from other regions in Central America.
It's time to stop this insane and ridiculous embargo against Cuba. We fought a war with China in Korea and another war with Vietnam that cost us thousands of dead G.I.'s, but we have full diplomatic relations with them now (with which I agree).

What did Cuba ever do to us to justify this economic embargo? All of our closest allies, including NATO members, have full diplomatic relations with Cuba.

STOP THE MADNESS!

Yes, when Castro first came to power in 1959, he did confiscate/nationalize the assets in Cuba of U.S. mega-corporations like United Fruit, U.S. Sugar and others. They not only survived, but continue to thrive to this day.

So, cry me a river.

You do realize that China fought its own war with Vietnam soon after we left, don't you? The Soviet Union was fighting a proxy war with us in Vietnam, not China.

Yes, I realize all that. What does it have to do with this ridiculous embargo against Cuba?

Absolutely nothing. I misread your post. sorry.

I agree with Dan. I've brought in many Cuban cigars (but never more than 5 or 6 at a time) when returning from Mexico. Never a problem.

IMHO, the quality has improved in recent years. About 10-15 years ago, they went downhill and were not worth the price.
If you are really concerned take off the wrapping bands. You can always put the bands back on at a later date.
