I wasn’t suggesting procedures shouldn’t be followed. After the situation is over, they should be put on trial for treason and face the death penalty if convicted.
OK then. As long as they're hanged legal, . . . DonDiego's got no beef.

All your Oregon standoff questions answered:

During a rally in Oregon for two ranchers convicted of arson, a group of anti-government protesters initiated the armed occupation of a federal building at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Here is everything you need to know about the militia standoff:

Where is the standoff taking place?
The headquarters of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, future capital of the Free Republic Of America.

How did this start?
Protests began after local ranchers Dwight and Steven Hammond were ordered to return to prison because their time already served for committing arson did not meet minimum-sentencing laws, which, to be fair, often do more harm than good and are certainly worthy of reevaluation.

Who are the ranchers protesting against?
Gub’ment.

Why did the ranchers take over the federal wildlife building?
You big-city folk wouldn’t understand.

How many people are involved in the standoff?
An estimated 150 militia members who would otherwise be armed and spouting anti-government rhetoric somewhere else.

What are the protesters’ demands?
$5 million in cash and safe passage to 1874.

Is there legitimacy to their complaints?
Compared to the plight of the Oregon’s nearly extinct short-tailed albatross? Absolutely not.

Who is Ammon Bundy?
An American patriot who is currently living inside a government wildlife building in the middle of Oregon to defend ranchers who burned down 130 acres of federal land.

Are the protesters violent?
They have vowed to only seek a peaceful overthrow of the entire U.S. federal government.

How long are they planning to stay?
As long as their supply of whiskey and bison chili lasts.

What is the militia ultimately hoping to achieve?
Garner enough attention over next few weeks to be brought onstage during rally for a low-polling GOP candidate.

Is the protest going to work?
Nope.

Thanks goes to The Onion for this update.....
Excellent first post!

Ahhhhh, . . . 1874, . . .

The James Gang robbed trains in Gad's Hill, Missouri and Muncie, Kansas that year. And Die Fledermaus" premiered in Vienna; . . . the National Woman's Christian Temperance Union organized in Cleveland, . . . Joseph F Glidden patented barbed wire, . . . and President Ulysses S. Grant received the King of Hawaii in Washington, DC.

All in all, . . . not a bad year.

Or we could use the approach the Republican front runner has advocated in these active terror situations. That is, we round up and execute the terrorists’ family members until the terrorists surrender without any regards to procedure.

Better read again Mal. There stated purpose is for the rights of ranchers, nit a word has been said about taking over the govt. Where did you read that, the daily kos or such?

I read that in USA Today. It was a direct quote from the Sheriff in that county. Are you saying the Sheriff is a liar?

Quote

Sheriff David Ward said protesters came to Harney County, in southeastern Oregon, "claiming to be part of militia groups supporting local ranchers." In reality, he said, "these men had alternative motives to attempt to overthrow the county and federal government in hopes to spark a movement across the United States.”

I wouldn't go so far as to call the man a liar, But I will say some small town sheriff is just talking out his arse. I highly doubt he has even had much contact with them ,if any.

From reuters;" The Oregon group was protesting the prison sentences of two ranchers who were convicted of arson for setting fires that spread to federally owned lands, as well as government control of Western lands."

It's really about ranchers rights and the obscene amount of land the feds own in west.

It's fucking cold over there this time of year. Shut off the power and their supplies and wait.
Liberals argue for the right of protesters to protest each day................which Boiler does too. Protesters who carry side arms don't seem to get the same nod from the Libs.
