Buying a new car (research)

My sister swore by Enterprise. She'd buy a car from them that came with a year warranty, drive it the year and then sell it. Often at a profit. Then buy another and repeat it.She did that the last five or six years of her life. When she passed away, we were able to sell her car for $15,000. She'd paid $15,300. She essentially drove the cars for free.
The rental agencies DO keep up with their oil changes. If the oil 'change due light' is on,they won't rent it out.
There are a LOT of really bad choices in cars.
The new BUG,The MINI and most Chrysler products.
There will always be re-calls, across the board.

Some are "silent recalls".The dealer or the MFR. will not make public notice of those cars/trucks.
If it shows up at a dealer, they will check for Technical Service Bulletins and perform the repair.

So many cars have been re-badged,you really don't know what you are getting.
Mercedes=Chrysler,Ford=Mazda and more.

I used to work on all brands of cars and trucks and I know what breaks/wears out prematurely.
After 2 or 3 Chinese water pumps failed,I'll go OEM for some replacement parts.
I'm now a Toyota guy and was a Ford guy.

I will(probably) NEVER buy a new car.
Over the years I've bought a few rental cars and they can be good values. They maintain them because it's to their advantage to do so, especially since they keep them longer these days. If you can find one with decent mileage, it might be a good deal. You can also find used rentals at car dealerships. Way back when dealerships felt rental companies were cutting into used car sales and the negotiated a deal where a good percentage of used rentals would go to the dealerships for sale. They called them process cars back then. The only problem I see today is old rental on average will have much higher mileage than previously. You might find a good deal though.

Good Luck!

I have used them all , take it from a car guy , Edmunds is the best . Consumer reports seems to be biased towards foreign makes . Bob

Yeah, everyone knows foreign cars are inferior to domestic models, except those lefties at CR.

That, and, like with rent houses, a few renters are great tenants, pay on time and take care of it as they would their own. But more often renters trash the place and don't care. They know they'll move on and won't give a damn about the condition they leave it in. That's all.
Toyota.

That's all you need to know.

Or a Ford or Chevy truck if you need something heavy duty.
One cannot tell how "American" an automobile is jes' by looking' at the nameplate.
Toyota Camry returns to No. 1 on 'most American' list

The April "car issue" scored the top-ten "Small SUVs as follows:
Subaru Forester - 83
Toyota RAV4 XLE - 76
Hyundai Tucson Sport (1.6T) - 75
Mazda CX-5 Touring (2.5L) - 74
Hyundai Tucson (2.0L) - 73
Nissan Rogue SV - 71
Volkswagen Tiguan SEL - 69
Honda CR-V EX - 69
Ford Escape Titanium (2.0T) - 62
Mitsubishi Outlander SEL (4 cyl) - 62

Looks like Campions selection of a Tucson rates well.

teechur had preferred Honda products for the last coupla' decades, but no longer cared for the style of the new CR-V, . . . so she purchased a brand new lava red Toyota RAV4 XLE last Spring. So far she loves it.
DonDiego is still driving his sedona red 2000 Subaru Impreza Sport; it's beginin' to look a mite beat up, . . . sorta like DonDiego hisself.
Thanks for that list DD

I've owned 3 cars in my life. All Toyotas

We had a Hyundai SantaFe that we thought was a great car

The Tucson is underpowered, imo.
