California Prisoners!

Just heard it on the radio that prisoners in California cost the state $51000 a year. In Florida and Texas, the prisoners cost $17,000 a year. They better stop serving these "beauties" Starbucks everyday!!
no not STARBUCKS, but i know they get better MEDICAL & DENTAL treatment than most CALIFORNIA citizens!!!
Maybe it's the corrections officers union that raises up the per inmate costs. Or not.
or not.

And they say crime doesn’t pay.
Okay, so given a choice of spending $51,000 per prisoner, or releasing them, which do you prefer?

Or, should California pay the lower cost states to take 'em??

Hmmm.... thats the ticket.
No worries! With the legalization of Marihuana in California, it is all covered.....Right?.....It was supposed to fix everything, wasn't it?
MIKE
But marijuana was NOT legalized in California. The voters said no.
Appears Cali should "subcontract" the prisoners out to lower cost providers. But I am sure the "union" for the guards are fighting that thought before it is even investigated in the Cali house.
Just another item that troubles the state of which has no answers to correct the budget problems they create.
Everything costs more in Cali. It's the market place at work. Supply and demand. More people want to live in Cali, hence more demand. I was amazed when I found out that my $200,000 house here in Georgia would go for over $700,000 near San Diego, even more around the expensive areas.

Not sure where the larger figure came from: Report here says 44k : https://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Articles/2011/02/09/Runaway-Prison-Costs-Thrash-State-Budgets.aspx

yes the figures for housing inmates out of state is cheaper. Understand that the reason for this is because they send their least violent offenders out of state. Minimum security is far cheaper than maximum.

The states are now paying the price for all those get tough and throw away the key laws they enacted over the last 3 decades. We have a large number of older inmates that are not eligible for release (2 strikes or 3 strikes laws). Senior citizens cost more to house.
The DOC here in Georgia is actually going to benefit from this economic downturn. They will finally have the political support needed to close a number of facilities, something they could never propose 5 years ago even though they wanted to.

But let's focus on what is really important: I'll be Vegas tonight!!!!!! YES!!!!!
