California Prisoners!

My family arrived at Ellis Island. But none of them robbed, raped or killed when they arrived here and went through the appropriate immigration process. The issue is the illegal immigrants who rob, rape or murder. We all welcome good people to our country built by immigrants.
All good law abiding LEGAL immigrants are welcome int the USA

Illegal aliens are only welcomed by those not paying the bill.

But some who came through Ellis Island did. Ever seen the Godfather?

I know of no statisitic that suggests the high-crimes rate of illegal immigrants today is any higher than that of the legal immigrants in the early 20th Century. Everyone is entitiled to their opinion about the current illegal immigrant situation but people harm their own cause in the debate when they ascribe false statistics to immigrants to make a point.
pjstroh, here is the difference between "then" and "now."

then: they entered the country legally and then did bad things.

now: they entered the country illegally and then did bad things.

we are a nation of immigrants and unfortunately Castro flooded our country with criminals in 1980 along with some good people.

and now we cannot keep the bad people out, who enter along with the good people or simply sneak in on their own.

since we are gamblers, I'd rather "bet" on those who enter legally.

Hit the nail on the head moneyla

How do you cut crime by releasing inmates?

Castro did NOT flood this country with criminals. As I said before, at most, only 3-5% of the Cubans that arrived in the boatlift were hardened criminals, and almost all of them have been dealt with by our justice system and immigration courts. You can sleep safe at night, MoneyLA, Scarface isn't coming for you, ok?

Try a Google search under Mariel Boatlift Wikipedia.

Aren't 100% of illegal aliens "criminals" by definition? They entered and live in our country Illegally. Then we educate them and give them jobs and health care and all the rights of a legal resident. No wonder they don't want to leave!

Obviously, you know nothing about immigration law.

Yes, by a decision of the Supreme Court some years back, any child in the U.S., regardless of immigration status, is entitled to attend public schools through 12th grade. Yes, it costs taxpayer money, but if you think education is expensive, try ignorance. Not only is this the humane thing to do, but it is the practicable thing to do as well, because in the end, these children are not going to go away.

Illegal immigrants are NOT "given" jobs and health care. Please explain what you mean by that. The only health care they are entitled to is emergency room care on a humanitarian basis. To get a job, by law the employer must verify their immigration status, but of course some employers dance around the law because they know what terrific workers most immigrants are, especially the illegal ones.

All the rights of a legal resident? Give me a break!
