You owe it to yourself to watch at least the first 5 minutes. I watched the entire 2 hours.
I work in drug research/development and spend 15 years in oncology and consulted with a small startup a few years ago that were working on a novel treatment and let me ask you this hypothetical question:
My company's new cancer drug is in the clinic with test patients. These patients are stage 4. The drug is very expensive to manufacture. We give the drug to 100 patients. The patients take the drug for 6 months. Ten patients get well again. In ninety of the patients the drug has no efficacy and they get sicker and die. There is no way to tell ahead of time in which patients the drug will work.
I submit my data to you. Do you approve my drug for marketing? Is it a good drug?
This doctor's positive results may well be real but what's his actual cure rate? There are many stories on the Internet about how his guy's treatment didn't work and the patients didn't make out so well.
There are hundreds of small companies out there working on novel cancer treatments and many, many scientists are working overtime to find a cure. They all want the Nobel Peace Prize. I worked for a guy that two of his college classmates won Nobels and he's close to 80 years old now and he's still working to try and get his. He could easily afford to retire but money is not his motivation. He wants a legacy of being the guy that found a treatment for this dreaded disease.
