Car Rental Prices !!!

Whoa! The prices for renting a car in Vegas is out of sight!!

For some reason I booked a few months ago and, like usual, figured the price would come down some.

Well, instead of coming down like it usually does the price has almost tripled!!

I guess I'm happy I booked when I did but still wonder why the high increase in prices.

Booked for the 19-29 of May.

Checked to see if there were lots of conventions and there didn't seem to be a bunch. Eeeek
I took a quick look at the convention calendar. You have a couple of large conventions taking place during that period.

Here are the largest ones:

RECon 2015 - 35,000 attendees (5/17 to 5/20)
Valley National 8-Ball League Assoc. VNEA 2015 Pool Championship - 10,000 attendees (5/21 to 5/30)
JCK Annual Trade Show 2015 - 37,500 attendees (5/29 to 6/1)

While the JCK show doesn't start until your last day, I'm guessing car rental agencies would want vehicles to be available before that start date.
I've noticed the same issue. I booked through Alamo using Costco codes in late March for our trip in late June. Rates were dropping for a couple weeks and I rebooked several time to take advantage of the price drops. Ended up with an all in price of $161 for our week on a full size car. Checked again this past week and prices jumped way up!! The price for the same rental period, using the same discount codes was now $293 all in. A jump of just over $130. I did notice today that the rate came down a bit to around $170. I'm still hoping for my rate to drop before we leave in June, but am happy I made our current reservation when we did.
Holy Cow! That means that my buddies rental(s) will be more than the air fare from Seattle!
2 other dudes will stay 7 and 9 days beginning on May 25th.

I had to call one of them for the warning.(No computer).
Those conventions are not that bad.

The ones to avoid as dates go are:

Las Vegas Market - Summer 2015

World Market Center

8/02/2015

8/06/2015

50,000... YIKES!
There are a few more.

140,000 for the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week? NO WAY!

Maybe this one takes the cake: International CES 2016(January,2016) 163,000.

The rental cars will be N/A for those times, maybe.

Rental car,you will have.

Got the info off of Westies post. Thanks!
I won't be there on a Friday. Boo hoo.
I'm looking for late July and the prices are extremely rude at that time.
I usually rent from thrifty, but this time I got the best deal from budget, $168.52 for a week, 04/29 - 05/05, and that included the weekend of the big fight. and the fight btw was a big sham. I checked rates almost daily for 3 months, they do fluctuate a lot.
The original post...
Renting during memorial weekend.
I noticed prices took a dip last week and now they are higher again.

I have a week rental for 300 from AVIS - used costco travel.
Visiting May 31-June 4. Booked Dollar (as always) prices seemed somewhat high but, each Sunday evening I check the rates with the discount code and I have re-booked 5 times so far. Lucky too miss the big conventions I guess.
I was happy to read that others have had the same reaction to the rental car prices.

We have been renting cars in Vegas for quite a few years and I know I have to "do the dance" - meaning I book and keep watching for the prices to "usually" come down. They do this quite often so I always end up with a wonderful rate.

Like I mentioned earlier, this year was so different. The prices are still high and not coming down much at all.

I made my reservation months ago for May 19-29 so that's 11 days of rental and got the price from Alamo (our favorite rental agency) for $237.00 Considering what I have read and what I am seeing from other rental agencies I am feeling thankful I booked when I did!!

Yippeeeee the time for our trip is only a couple of weeks away. We plan on doing our usual adventure; first heading to Laughlin for three nights and then driving up to Capitol Reef in Utah for some days and ending back in Las Vegas before returning home.

Can't wait!!
