Carnival cruises.....again?

Here is an interesting link that lists how many people go overboard every year broken down by cruise lines. Link

I have to agree with DD on this one, having lived in the Tampa Bay Area for over fifty years I have been on several cruises. I have never once had a fear of going overboard. What has concerned me is seeing people severely intoxicated playing the fool climbing all over the railings etc.

I have been out on the deck several times at night and it sends shivers up my spine. It is pitch black out there and if you went over you are totally screwed. Somebody I know from the coast guard told me most are drunks or suicides but I can't prove that.

I used to teach ship board firefighting to the merchant seaman. They told me whenever somebody was being a pain in the ass you just threatened to toss them overboard, that would get their mind right in a hurry.

c'mon RM, just ignore it.

Amen
I have been on three cruises with Regent. The last one in the Northeast had very high winds. They closed the top pool deck because of it. On most of these ships, the railing is high enough and one is going to have to climb over the railing to fall off of the ship.

Unfortunately some of these missing people cases have been murders where the boyfriend or husband is dumping the body overboard.
Australia is the better part of a day ahead of Appalachia within the Universe.

By the time DonDiego posted his previous post the balcony had already been inspected. The railing was higher than regulations require. And it was not defective or damaged.

And now, . . .
"Video footage from the Carnival cruise ship where a young couple went missing this week appears to show the woman jumping from the vessel and her panic-stricken boyfriend following moments later, Australia's Herald Sun is reporting."
Ref: Detroit Free Press

It would seem to be a jumper, . . . influenced by alcohol?, . . . drugs?, . . . suicidal thoughts?, . . .???, . . . jumped and her boyfriend followed, . . . to save her?, . . .??? The boyfriend was a paramedic and reportedly in excellent physical condition.

Yow, terrible.

Thank you for the clarification DD. I would have been surprised if it had been anything different.
Just booked our 9th Carnival Cruise for next February. The worst thing that has happened to us during our previous eight Carnival Cruises is that a couple times the water in the hot tub was lukewarm, not hot.

The price is always right. They say you get what you pay for, but we have had wonderful, wonderful times filled with food, fun and adventure at a bargain price. A cruise is what you make it.

And yes, I do own Carnival stock. You can get a lot of those umbrella drinks with the $100 on board credit Carnival gives us each time we cruise because we are stockholders.

I am sorry that the people died off Australia. I doubt it was Carnival's fault.

That's a balcony cabin. I had a balcony cabin on a 9-day Carnival cruise. It would be almost impossible to accidently fall overboard from one of those balconies unless you are very tall and very intoxicated. So sad...
