We were staying accross the street at the HO (our first experience with free rooms) and would run over to the Riv every chance we got. We were the quintesential groupies. Cameras were not allowed and you would get thrown out if they thought you were taking pictures. My new camera could shoot indoors without a flash, so of course, i had to try to get some pictures. We saw Deniro from a distance, (he looked so handsome in his cream colored suit). Saw Martin Scorcese (very short) and Don Rickles. Never saw Sharon Stone. I took many pictures on the sly but most of them turned out blurry, because of the haste. I did get some good pictures of the waitresses in their costumes.
We went over at 2 a.m. when they were shooting the scene where the cowboy puts his feet on the poker table. They shot it over and over but not with Deniro. We also watched them shoot many scenes with extras that never made it into the movie. It was a fun experiece and we still talk about it. Of course, it remains one of my favorite movies of all time.

I was at the Riviera for one night while they were filming. They came in at midnight and the crowds of people were excited. They didn't get set up and started to about 4am. Many people had gone to bed. I didn't see Stone either, but saw Scorcese, Rickles, De Niro, and Pesci. One scene was a pan of the casino. Another was where two other gangsters were trying to shake down the casino cage and the Pesci character met him.
Seems a disproportionate number of Vegas scenes are filmed at the Riviera. 21, Hangover... The Riviera is my least favorite casino in all of Vegas.
I'd love to know what kind of wristwatch Deniro's character is wearing in this movie. Been trying to buy one for a few years,am also interested in the glasses he wears. If anybody knows please help.

In the 1995 movie Casino, a scene starring Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone plays inside the Center Stage Restaurant, where Ginger (played by Sharon Stone) and Sam (played by Robert De Niro) argue over missing money.

DonDiego does not know.

However, in its credits Casino lists Bulgari as the supplier of jewelry in the film. If DonDiego were searching that's where he would start.

(However, DonDiego would not be searching for a Bulgari. Many years ago wherever DonDiego was living one of those warehouse-display-discount-stores was going out of business. They put their Timex watches on sale for well under ½ price, and DonDiego bought 6 or 7 watches for less than $50. They lasted him for over 25 years. And he always knew what time it was, at least to the nearest 5 minutes or so.)

In the pool scene and at the airport with Ginger, Mr Deniro is seen wearing Carrera 5425 sunglasses.

The one other surprise in Casino, is the guy you see early in the movie, when you first get to meet Sharon Stone's character, Ginger. He has Ginger as a date and she is throwing the dice for him in a craps game. She is also palming his chips and ripping him off.

When I was walking through Caesars several years ago, I see this same guy (you can tell him by his big square eyeglasses) walking through the hallway where there are a few shops. I was with a friend who happens to be an actor, and he missed seeing him. We later walked by Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones in a hallway. They were putting on a celebrity golf tournament that weekend and Caesar's was one of the sponsors. Anyhow back to the Casino character. It turns out he was the owner of a men's store inside of the Caesar's hotel, and there are many picture stills from the movie posted on the windows of his store. I don't know if his business is still there or not?

The man's name is Ali Pirouzkar and he is well-known around Las Vegas: The Cult of Ali Pirouzkar

Another bit of trivia:
"Dick Smothers' character, Senator, is partly based on Nevada Senator Harry Reid, who was chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission. The scene in which Sam Rothstein is denied a license by the Nevada Gaming Commission is based on a December 1978 hearing when Harry Reid was the commission's chairman; some of Reid's statements are used in Smothers' dialogue. The scene was shot in an actual courtroom in the Clark County Courthouse, which was later closed in 2005."

Now the question is whether Harry Reid was comped a room and if he took a hooker up there?
If you go on the "Las Vegas Mob Tour" (Bus tour boards at the Royal Resort each night) they will take you around to many of the landmarks from where the movie happened in real life.

- The old Stardust Hotel was the one given to Rosenthal to manage by the mob. It is referred to as "The Tangiers" in the movie. Under Rosenthal it was the first major casino to offer sports betting.

- If you park by the front door at Marie Calendar's restaurant on Sahara Blvd you will likely be within the blast radius of the car bomb in Rosenthal's car.

- There is a walled off gold course community behind Paradise Rd on the northern end of the strip. This is where the FBI was spying on Rosenthal via airplane...when the the plane unexpectedly ran out of fuel and was forced to land on the golf course fairway.

- Spilotro's (Joe Pesci) gang was notorious for breaking into vaults in town simply by punching holes in the wall. His gang was caught by the FBI in a sting in what is now an abandoned warehouse. Its about 2 blocks away from where Rosenthal-Deniro's car blew up on Sahara. That was the beginning of the end.

- Spilotro's pawn shop, the Gold Rush, was kitty corner on Las Vegas Blvd accross from the Worlds Greatest Gift Shop (right by the Sahara Hotel). Ths is where he pawned all the stuff he stole from all over the city.

- Other highlites from the tour include: restaurant owned by Spilotro, Restaurant where the gangsters all hung out, house where Robert Deniro's character lived in the movie Casino (not actually Rosenthal's house), several other celebrtiy houses.
