Casinoboss Answers Your Questions: Part III

Regarding the Venetian/Palazzo comp (essentially eliminating comps to all but whales), I certainly understand their right to do so.

But, what are your thoughts on their recent practice of confirming room comps and then calling these players at very short notice (sometimes with 24 hours or less before their scheduled check in) and telling them that their rooms are no longer going to be comped, but they are welcome to pay casino rate for the same rooms?

And, have media reports of this practice in any way "harmed" their overall reputation?

And, if you believe it has harmed their reputation, do you think they care about this situation?

Thanks in advance, I always enjoy your threads.

I don't know that Wynn said that, but of course there are many, many people who, when they look back on their lives, will have ended up way ahead thanks to gambling.

Lots of lottery winners. A Californian got a lump sum of $141 million a few years back. Or the guy from the song who won the lottery, then died the next day.

Steve Wynn says lots of dumb stuff. If he said that, it just goes on an already-long list.

Steve Wynn did make this statement on 60 minutes a couple of months ago. I don't think he was talking about the lottery. LOL
Thanks for answering my question.

One more, do pit bosses have the ability to comp you dinner or such like in the past? Do you need to ask, or can they offer?

boss - as a blackjack player, should it matter to me whether a casino uses union or non-union dealers? I read somewhere that casinos prefer non-union dealers as they are an "ambassador" for the casino and this is not normally an organized labor function.

Poker and advantage VP players but even then most of them go bust at some point only to rebuild their bankroll.

I don't know about that. I've been playing VP, mostly FDPW, for 25 years and am ever so slightly ahead. I'll let you know if I "go bust".

I believe I said "most".

I definitely don't agree with cancelling the offers and am really not sure if that's allowed, from a regulatory standpoint. I guess the regulators haven't said anything yet so it's okay, though.

I definitely think this caused them a lot of bad PR but it's pretty obvious Sheldon doesn't really care. I'm pretty sure people underneath him care, though, since they're the ones who have to deal with the repercussions both from a guest satisfaction and revenue attainment perspective.

Depends on the casino but generally, yes. And generally, they can offer.

Only to the extent that, if you subscribe to the anti-union argument, that it will drive up wages unnecessarily and hurt the company's ability to spend.
