Casinoboss Answers Your Questions: Part IV

Saw my name pop up in a recent thread so I thought I'd open this up again!
Since you are anonymous, are there card mechanics or other dealers who can affect the outcome for the house if needed?

No.

Although sometimes you know some dealers are better than others at certain games so you might put them on a particular game that is not holding well. For example, if you have a pitch BJ game that is not holding you might put your best pitch BJ dealer there. And when I say best, I mean fastest and most accurate. More hands = better chance for the house.
Question for Casinoboss? Sometimes I see slots players or video poker players pull out their slot card from the card reader just before they receive a good paying hand. I'm guessing people do this thinking that they can trick the system so as to not have the win recorded to their account. Does this technique work?

I don't think a card does anything to affect the hand. But at the old a dealer start my game and was sure he could fix the deck. Matter of fact, a new player in the game thought he was false shuffling. I looked like a pro at the time and I think they sent this dealer in to deal me nothing. I left soon after, and tried to play poker, and they shut down the game. Boy was I tough then!

On one of the Travel Channel specials on cheating, there was some guy who was superb at slight of hand and was able to hire on as a dealer at a casino. He was able to false shuffle and have a card at the top (like an ace). He would have one or more people involved in his little operation and took the casinos for a considerable amount of money. He never got caught and claimed that he is now retired from it.

I guess it depends on what it is they're trying to avoid.

If it's paying taxes on a taxable jackpot, then no, as we'd want your ID, etc. for the 1099 form.

In terms of your annual win/loss statement then yes you could reduce the amount reported by doing this but I don't know why you'd want that.

With regards to Cash Transaction Reporting (we must report cash transaction in excess of $10,000 to the IRS for money laundering tracking) I suppose it is possible but generally if you got close to that point we'd be watching you anyhow and I don't know why you'd be using a card in the first place.

It's certainly possible (I think I've actually seen that episode) but his false shuffling most certainly not sanctioned by the casino. Or at least it wouldn't in modern times.

I can't believe it. The episode is running tonight on the Destination America channel.
