Casino’s with active card rooms?

It has been a few years, but I am beginning to ponder taking a trip in 2017. What I prefer to play is the daily tournaments held in each casino’s card room. On my last trip out, I grabbed a magazine that had them listed, but it was pot luck what you would find when you arrived. Often there weren’t enough players for a good payout structure or even a full table. Once you made the commitment to check it out, you were stuck with it because it would take you too long to get somewhere else. I prefer entry fees of $125 or less.
Check out www.pokeratlas.com You can find a list of all poker rooms and tournaments that they run.
The Orleans has a big room, and the run decent tourneys.
They usually start about $75. My backup is usually the Strat which is cheaper but usually doesn't have the same number of players the Orleans usually does. It was either the flamingo of Harrahs I played at a decent tourney in June in the $50-$60 range.
I have been using the "Bravo" app for a few years now. ( Bravopoker.net) available in the app store of your choice.

I check it before leaving home to see what interests me that day.

Once booted, it shows Room description, promotions, tournament schedules, current games, wait lists, and more, for every poker room, based on your location, and the mileage. Pretty comprehensive and, IMHO, a must have for any "serious" poker player.

BTW: It is FREE!

There are some rooms that do not participate. In Vegas, Binions, & Golden Nugget do not appear to be listed. A quick look showed me that about 28 other poker rooms are. With real time information, it saves a lot of phone calls or stops to check the action. BTW, I checked LV from my home in beautiful S E Florida while typing this reply. It is a "worldwide" app.

Bravo works great as long as the card rooms you frequent use the system. For the card rooms Bravo is pretty expensive though I would think it would help to drive up traffic.

In LA only The Commerce uses Bravo, which is pretty useless. The Commerce always has good games and good action. The Hustler, Bike and Gardens do not subscribe so there is nothing to compare to. I guess if you frequent enough you can tell what kind of day it is by how many tables are going but you would have to be pretty knowledgeable about that particular room.

I don't play tournaments so I hadn't thought about it from that viewpoint. Since the app is also used by the rooms for game management the info on the site should be completely accurate and up to date.

Also, you can view the info directly from their site if you don't want to use the app.
Poker's popularity has taken a nose dive - at least at the live games in Casinos. I want to say Golden Nugget is the only place downtown that still has a poker room.

There used to be waiting lists to get into the rooms and they'd call your name over the loudspeaker when a seat opened. Seems like they don't need the loudspeaker much anymore. From what I've witnessed there's not much waiting - even in the better rooms mid strip.

Poker has definitely run it's course as a fad.

The golden Nugget still has a list occasionally. There is almost always a good game there in the evenings. Sometimes the last table breaks at 2 or 3 in the morning. Sometimes it never breaks.

I have never figured out Binion's. It is one of the nicest poker rooms anywhere. Some trips it looks to be doing great, several tables running. Other trips it's dead.

All the card rooms seem to be heavily dependent on the locals.

No limit hold'em ring games have severely damaged live poker, and not just in Las Vegas. When 2-4, 3-6, 4-8, 5-10 (and up) limit hold'em were the norm, poker rooms were flourishing and waiting lists were common. You didn't have to worry about some donk going all-in with a pair of 3's in the hole against your pair of bullets in the hole taking you whole stack by getting lucky on the flop, turn or river. That transformation took most of the fun out of the game for me. No limit makes sense for tournament play, but it sucks for ring games.

What you say is true, and it is an integral part of the modern game. But it is true for limit games as well. They don't call the limit games "no fold 'em, hold 'em" for nothing.

I believe the demise of on-line poker brought down the popularity of live games with it. The state of live poker is still better now than it was before the on-line phenomenon.
