In those days, they made you collect after each game, but for him, they allowed him about 25 games before he had to turn in his tickets. After all, a greeter couldn't be leaving his post and going to the Keno area after every game. Besides, he was losing heavily and wanted his action.
If I'm not mistaken, heavyweight boxing champ Joe Louis was also a greeter at the Hilton. As an aside, I used to go to a sports bar in Calabasas, CA and Jerry Quarry used to stop by to see a friend of his who watched the games there. Since I knew his friend and was seated with him, I got to meet Quarry. I used to buy him a few drinks every time. After about the third time he was there, a friend of mine who I bowled with came in when he found out they showed the Giants games. When Jerry walked in and sat down by me, I called my friend over to meet him. My friend couldn't believe it that I was introducing him to Quarry, he thought I was kidding until he got to the table. He was very impressed!
Joe Louis also did some greeting at Caesars, they have a bronze statue of him in the casino.
