Changes coming to Downtown.

Spent a couple days downtown this weekend and pieced together some loose talk while I was there.

In the "near" future the entire block of Main/1st street and Fremont/Ogden will be demolished to the sub basement. All of it. It will be a clean slate.

A new full luxury resort will be built. Pool, Spa, the works. A certain Wife and Daughter have spent considerable time visiting and studying every resort in Vegas getting ideas, seeing what works, what doesn't and what will be the best fit downtown.

Of course it will have a slightly more "real people" atmosphere with emphasis on partying. The pool will be designed with "day clubbing" in mind. My request for a relaxing, quiet, adult pool was snorted and snickered at. I was told to "drink up and get with the program."

LEED certification and all available "green" technology will be implemented. Subterranean cooling will be used.

Square footage, casino size and make up, restaurants, number of rooms, number of floors, etc. were bragged about but this was after I was catching up on my alcohol intake and I don't really recall the specifics. I do recall the estimated budget......

ONE BILLION DOLLARS

I know many here like cites and sources.
I offer none.
Just remember, you heard it here first.
I wont drill you on sources. in fact it sounds about like what I expected, unfortunately. better than LVC I suppose. I never had any love for that joint. change is inevitable I know, but it never seems like it is in the direction that I would like for it to go. thx for sharing.

Biff Tannen ? ? ?

Sounds like the same concept that went into the Downtown Grand ...although starting from a clean slate certainly gives more options. Having a pool to rival Golden Nugget might be a good draw...
The Stevens brothers, developers of The D, have been buying up the properties on that block.

When you say 1st and Main, what current properties are you talking about? Just the Vegas Club , Mermaids and the Gulch?
I miss the Vegas Club. They used to have the best blackjack in Vegas and featured great promos. Decent food at cheap prices, as well. It went to he'll when the gun runner bought it.
I also loved the Vegas Club, especially years ago.

They own the entire block, free and clear, including all subterranean rights "straight down to the center of the Earth".

Yes. The only other thing there was the Granite company offices which came with the sale. everything is supposedly coming down including the parking garage. There will be one big pit there.

Wasn't it Vegas club that had singe deck, pitch, with double down after splitting? While I 'know' nothing I am sure the gambling will be the same as the other two casinos. At least that does mean 3 to 2 BJ and 10x odds on craps.

We'll know what it'll look like in 3-4 years, I'm guessing. It'll be interesting.
