Checking out of a hotel

I do not remember reading about this before. If you left your credit card number when checking in, is it necessary to check out by TV or at the front desk on your day of departure? Can you just leave before check out time? Not that I would do it, but just curious.
I do it all the time.
Ditto. Just check your balance through the TV or call the front desk if you have to prior to departing.
If I haven't charged anything to my room, I just leave. Always check the TV for unauthorized charges to your account.

We always check out on the tv as well

I always check out using the tv.
I use the TV or call down to check out. This way the room is entered into the system and Housekeeping
is aware it is vacant and available to clean for the next guest.
I use the television also, but sometimes it will state that service is temporarily unavailable. I will then call the front desk to check out.
I've even called from the airport before boarding to check out, just in case I could get bumped and would need the room. (I'd booked an extra night on a comp.)

Called my host after I checked out and told him "Family Emergency", hope it does not affect future offers. He said "No Problem, hope everythings OK, call me when you want to rebook. I'll add a note."

I always worry that if you don't check out that they will assume that you decided to stay over and start billing extra nights.
