Chicago violence

Bring in the Detectives, Teachers, politicians, gangsters. Let's get the straight poop. At the end of season 1 we can have a nationwide vote on who to fire or jail and how much money we spend to fix it. I call it 'Dancing with Real Chicago Murders'.

Watch hbo's "the wire". It's pretty much exactly what you said. It's not real people but it's based on the real problems of Baltimore's inner city. It looks at the problems from the perspective of the gangs, police, schools, media, And politicians. If you want know why things are the way the are....and why it's so difficult to change you'll find it to be a valuable resource of insight.
Lol. Cops is always filmed in vegas. Get to Chicago!

All you have to do is watch cops to shake your head in disbelief. Often too sad for me to actually watch and I turn it. Can't believe t has been on for all these years. But the disconnect is crazy to reality and this "entertainment "
I signed up and volunteered to raise my two boys. While they are now young adults and live 500 miles and 1000 miles away from me, I still visit with them regularly and talk with them numerous times per week. I coached their Little League teams as they grew, and attended every parent teacher conference. I helped with their homework when they had problems, and I took great interest in everything that they did.

I suggest that such father/child interaction become popular in the South Side of Chicago. It does not take a village to raise a child, but instead, two dedicated parents.

In the black community, it's acceptable to drop out of school, it's acceptable to have 3 babies by 3 fathers by the age of 21. A lack of respect for others, and especially whites, is rampant in the black community. Drugs are common.

And then, noone is willing to talk about the problems and truths, which is integral to solving these problems, for fear of being called racist. And the problems continue, the killing grow, and the slums expand.

I would challenge PJ to find a time when Boiler directly blamed Chicago on Obama. Most of the Chicago blame falls with local politicians, and the black community itself.

In fact the new president has said such violence will end on his watch. So are the Obama crybabies going to hold him to that?.... or are they going to continue to cry about Jessie Jackson?

Complaining about black people in Chicago isn't a solution. Complaining about the people who have dedicated their lives to improving poor inner city communities is not a solution. Its just complaining and crying - and lets be honest. That's all you've offered on the topic - ever.

This thread is a perfect example.

If you give a crap about this issue then I would invite you to volunteer in your local inner city to try and make a difference and show a path for people who started their lives with far less than you did. If you don't give a crap about this issue and just want to make broad statements about communities you aren't the least bit familiar with then start more threads like this.

love that you wrote you "volunteered" to raise you raise your sons. I can't seem to get this through to anyone and especially in light of these recent "women's" issues. A women's lib mantra is "take care of yourself first". This is a main stay of the stay at home mom world. I think it needs to go wider. When you take care of your home and family and neighborhood. The world is taken care of one block at a time. This is also a message at my church quite frequently. And if people look at the statistics it is not just "poor" or "black" neighborhoods with issues. Sadly, I know many upper middle class fighting battles with addiction, drugs, broken homes, criminal issues, etc. start with your home and the world will take care of itself. However, I must say I am very grateful for "the village" that raised me. I do believe in "it takes of village". So many wonderful teachers and grandparents and aunts and uncles. You can never have too much love for your child. Another thing that "co-parents" need to learn. And likewise, if someone isn't a positive influence let a child live in peace.

Indeed, columbine was two privileged white and children and most serial killers have always been white men. Not all of course and not reflecting today's political issues. I personally know a person of every religion and they are very wonderful people that I have broken bread with. We have been fortunate to meet many foreign immigrants and their families and are blessed for their friendship. I also know the years of money and separation it took for them to go through the legal process though.

Wouldn't "Dancing with the real Chi-town murder stars" maybe gain a larger share.
You make a good point that "It takes a village" to raise a child. It certainly is far easier to raise children in a good village, and that's why good parents make certain that their kid are raised in such a place. In the town that I moved from outside of Indianapolis 5 months ago, some parents moved their children 5 miles east into my town, so their kids weren't raised in a bad area. Literally five miles to go from a hood school, in Indianapolis, to a good school outside of town. The dividing line was "county line road", which PJ knows quite well.

Using a "village" to raise a child has NEVER, in the history of the world, worked.

With almost 6000 years of recorded history literally at your fingertips you would think that people would learn. But alas, the same ideas are thrown out again and again, almost always by people who think they have something "new".

Not at all.

First off, only young citizen men were raised by the state, not the populace. Nor BY the populace. This quickly led to a militarized government and the inevitable coups and fall to the Hellonites who vastly outnumbered them in their own country.
