Colin Kaepernick

Damn, you forgot to tuck your sheets in again. WTF does his fiance's religion have to do with this?

The NFL has rules against wearing unauthorized gear, it has no rule stating players must stand for the National Anthem.

Only a person who has had his head stuck in the sand would not realize what that could potentially mean. Of course I'm sure you support this guy.
Here is someone who has it right.

I respect Colin's right to do what ever he wants to do. That's what millions of veterans have fought, were wounded, and died for.

Now, I also respect the 300,000,000 people of this great country right to:

1) Boo him every time he touches the ball

2) Cheer loud and long every time someone on the defense plows him two feet into the turf.

3) Burn his jersey

4) Boycott any company that is stupid enough to have him as a spokesman from here on out.

After all, this is a free country and if he can do wants, so can we.

#2 made me LOL

I can't figure if this guy is genius and this is a secret ploy to make San Francisco contemplate not cutting him or if the guy is dumb as a box of rocks. Here he wears a shirt with Fidel Castro on it. Hey Colin, you claim you are against oppression, but then you wear a Castro shirt. What gives?

I disagree with his actions, but of course I defend his right to protest. I took an oath to defend the Constitution. The whole Constitution, not just the parts I agree with. The right to peaceful protest is as American as it gets.

Aren't you just wonderful? Like stated above, I have the right to boo him, to not purchase any product he endorses and to advocate that the 49ers cut him.

The photos on the shirt depict Malcolm X,aka el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, with Fidel Castro. The caption at the bottom states: "Like Minds Think Alike".

Although DonDiego has nothing particularly pleasant to say about either of those fellows, DonDiego recognizes everyone's right to choose their own heroes. And to say what's on their mind. And to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the United States of America however they please.

Poor old DonDiego supposes such displays do little other than make people aware of Mr. Kaepernick's opinion, i.e. it is unlikely to result in a rising up of the populace in support of The Nation of Islam's beliefs , which Mr. el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz supported
__that black people are the original people of the world
__that white people are "devils"
__that blacks are superior to whites
__that the demise of the white race is imminent

Until he left The Nation of Islam. [DonDiego does not know if the photos with Mr. Castro were taken when he was with the nation of Islam or after he split with it.]

In April, 1964 Mr. X gave a speech titled "The Ballot or the Bullet", in which he advised African Americans to exercise their right to vote wisely but cautioned that if the government continued to prevent African Americans from attaining full equality, it might be necessary for them to take up arms.
[Had such a rebellion occurred, DonDiego would've preferred to sit it out and be left alone until it was resolved.]

The generally accepted story is that the Nation of Islam was behind his eventual assassination.

So poor old DonDiego opines Mr. Kaepernick's display will change few minds. DonDiego hopes he is prepared for the repercussions of one exercising one's right to free speech. He is likely to be less popular among the NFL fan base.

DonDiego expects nothing beyond this brief essay addressing the minor "political demonstration" with respect to interactions between Mr. Kaepernick and DonDiego. He had no intention of drafting him in a Fantasy League anyway.

the young man has some issues and needs and demons to deal with. the is far deeper than sitting for the national anthem. I hope he gets a grasp on things sooner than later.

I don't agree with Kaepernick, but clearly this cartoon doesn't work in describing the situation. Kaepernick's marketability just tanked and he admitted that it would, saying "If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right."

Yeah that pretty much is where I'm at too. Most people, from what I can tell. There's no argument that he CAN do that, the argument is whether he should.

I'd prefer to see him do something positive, rather than negative. Rather than disrespect the national anthem, why not do something proactive and go into the community and see how you can help. Donate some more of that money. Go talk to more inner city kids. Go to the PD and find out what you can do to HELP.

Sometimes I think we forget these guys are young and frankly not that bright. Maybe he didn't really think this through. The timing of it certainly is interesting. He was quickly becoming irrelevant and undesireable on his own team, and in the league.....even before this. He's always seemed to be a narcissist anyhow. For a while, he and Russell Wilson were gonna be the next big head-to-head QB rivalry in the league. One guy who celebrated with himself, kissed his biceps, did everything he could to draw attention to himself. One guy who celebrated with his teammates and respected the game. So it would be easy to say he's just doing this to get attention and try to make himself relevant in the news again. But it's not up to me to question what's in his head or heart because I have no idea. Maybe he does feel strongly about all this, as misguided as some of it may be, and he just didn't pick the best way to do it.
