Colin Kaepernick

Soon all of the players will kneel and then someone will stand with their hand over their heart as a protest.

I didn't kill anyone to defend a flag or a song. I did it to defend people's rights to peacefully protest.
I don't agree with his choices, but will defend his right to do so.

But flags and songs are symbols of the rights you defended.
They stand for good things, including peaceful protest.

Where, then, is the distinction between peaceful protest against a specific wrong, as one sees it, and demonstration of disrespect for, in this case, the country that provides the very protections and benefits that the 'symbol(s)' stand for, the privileges and goods that one enjoys as an American citizen, realizing that sometimes things are done very badly by individuals, not the country and what it stands for?

Excellent post Candy, but I'm sure Billy will do some BS squirming around the point you've made. Probably add a GUILTY!GUILTY!GUILTY! to the end of it even tho it's completely unrelated to the thread. Definitely the best way anyone has put it in writing here.
If we as Americans no longer respect the rights we have, then the flag becomes just another piece of cloth. Maybe those who never sacrifice just don't get it. Funny how you talk about privileges and I talk about rights. One earns privileges, rights are inherent.

You respect people who behave badly.

It is amusing to watch white males fawn over black athletes like love sick school girls. They can't seem to grasp how an African American's experience in America might be different than their own. They assume since they idolize the athletes that the athletes are just like them.

For the record, poor old DonDiego does not fawn over black athletes, or any athletes . . . although he did sorta have a crush on Randall Cunningham when he quarterbacked the Philadelphia Eagles.

DonDiego supposes everyone he meets has had a different experience than he has; he is grateful that no one else is just like him. As is everyone else.

HUH? What in the world does that mean?
I think everyone's experience is different. Lumping people together by race, gender, religion, and economic status is just a way to over-simplify and divide us.

I am not saying I am, but I realize all people aren't motivated by the same things I am. Hell we have a major party nominee for President openly embracing white nationalism.
