Just a side note on this. It is the local police chief or sheriff who approves concealed carry permits in California. This ruling did not say that you MUST have some special need to get a CCW permit...only that you CAN be declined without 'Good Cause'.
Just so.

Concealed Carry Permits are already a power exercised by the 50 States, and that States may deny an applicant a permit demonstrates the absence of a Constitutional Right to concealed carry.

Eight States, . . . Alaska, Arizona, Kansas, Maine, Montana, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming do not require any permit for concealed carry; they recognize the Second Amendment as one's permit. Why, heckfire, . . . Arizona allows open carry, . . . just like in the Good Old Days of the Earps and the Clantons in Tombstone.

Nonetheless, most States require a concealed carry permit, . . . some issued by local police chiefs/sheriffs, some by other means.
Some States are "Will Issue" States, which typically issue a permit unless there is a specific reason not to.
And other "May Issue" States may deny a permit for legislated causes, as California does, before issuing a permit.

And most States recognize a carry permit issued by another State is valid when the carrier visits their State, . . . BUT NOT ALL. As one might suspect the State of California recognizes few, if any, permits issued by other States.

DonDiego says: "Be careful out there."

Just for informational purposes, DD, I recently learned that if you really, REALLY want to offend someone, you should go with “pedantic asshole” rather than “poo poo head.”

Silly ammosexuals get their history from old westerns on the teevee. Towns like Dodge and Tombstone had strict gun control laws. Typically, towns in the old west required gun owners to check their guns at the outskirts of town or the sheriff's office. There's a pretty cool historical artifact that exists because of that:

Gun laws have changed radically since then, haven't they?

That's a pretty cool relic.

Some have, some haven't.

As poor old DonDiego suggested above, the existence of numerous gun control laws over the years demonstrates that the "new" judgement that a citizen does not have a right to concealed carry has been recognized for many decades.

An excellent contemporary example is the strict gun control measures within the City of Chicago. The results of this prohibition of firearms in the Windy City are documented at heyjackass.com . [DonDiego finds the statistics displayed by the Shot-in-the-Junk-O-Meter especially surprising.]

[DonDiego apologizes for the earlier reference to the Earps and the Clantons. It was in error. The putative cause of the Gunfight at the OK Corral was, in fact, enforcement of the Tombstone statute barring citizens carrying weapons within the city limits.]

81 killed and 47 injured with head shots? Damn, those thugs need to go to the range to learn how to shoot.
On Saturday, my boy loaded two 19 round clips while sitting on the couch before leaving my house. He inserted one clip into the magazine, and placed his weapon into his concealed holster. I don't own guns, but I support the right of lawful Americans to protect themselves as they see fit. He just bought a home in the country, and while violent crime rates are very low there, the police are a long ways away.

I suspect all of his neighbors have guns, and that's one reason crime rates are low.
