The "suspect" woman apparently carried a concealed handled legally in accordance with the Laws of the State of Michigan and the City of Detroit.

However, permission to carry does not entitle the carrier to unlimited use of her firearm. Employing a firearm to enforce the Law, if one is not an Officer of the Law is certainly questionable. She may well be charged with assault with a firearm, unless she or someone else was personally endangered and she was acting in self-defense.

DonDiego does not understand use of the term "Conservative paradise" in the title of this thread. Concealed carry within the Laws of one's State/City is a legal right of US citizens of any political persuasion.

Doesn't every conservative gun nut dream of being a hero that foils a criminal with his or her big bad gun? What could be more heroic than pulling out your gun at a big box retail store full of people and trying to pump some lead into the back of a hardened criminal as he flees with some ill gotten 2x4s?

If you are trying to look like an idiot, you are doing a good job. How many straw men can you knock down?

No.

But now poor old DonDiego understands the thoughts behind malliber2's misapprehension of the term "conservative".

Conservatives believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, and individual liberty. The role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals. Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems, as opposed to establishing an ever larger role for The Government.
Shooting at shoplifters isn't addressed by the philosophy directly. But conservatism does, nonetheless, recognize the necessity for legitimate government police powers, . . . such as those likely to be applied to the misguided lady in Detroit.

This woman should be thrown in jail and have her permit revoked.
She should be made to take mandatory shooting lessons until she can hit what she is aiming at.

What makes you think that anyone who carries a CW "dreams" of doing anything with it? I think it's quite the opposite, from the few I know and from everything I've read pulling a gun on anybody is the last thing they want to do and will only do so as a last resort. I know if I carried the last thing I want to do is shoot anybody but if it came down to me or him, I choose me every time.

Of course there will always be the oddball who thinks they can shoot at people who aren't endangering anybody. I'm pretty sure of one thing, if anyone were carrying during the last Ore. shooting (that soldier comes to mind), there wouldn't be as many people shot, who knows, maybe nobody at all.
