It didn't really register until you pointed it out, but THAT'S what was missing from my last trip to Vegas.
This is wonderful news. He is a Vegas icon from way back.
I have never even heard of this act. I take it that it is a "must see"?

If you enjoy old school rat pack vegas it might be a "must see", especially for free. Cook E does all the classics from back in the day He works the crowd and adds in a couple of one liners between songs. Its a entertainig hour or two
Does anyone remember Henry Shead?

I worked with his brother. Henry Shead had a long careeer playing in lounges on the Strip. "A pianist, singer, and entertainer extraordinaire", as a youngster he played piano in churches, on a TV show, and in top tier social clubs in Little Rock.

After graduating college in Arkansas, he formed a trio and played in numerous hotels on the Strip including the Hacienda, Caesars Palace, MGM Grand (now Bally's), the Startdust, and AJ's Steakhouse at the Hard Rock. He was voted Best Lounge Act of the Year in 1977 while performing at the Stardust. He also performed for celebrities' and politicians' private parties.

He was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 2006. He died in October of 2012, was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles. I saved his obituary since I knew his brother well, a prince of a man himself.
I have good fiends in a lounge band who used to regularly play MGM Grand, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay. The guitar player (who had Neal Schon of Journey ask to play a set, swore by Cook E. Jarr. That being said, I just watched a Youtube video and wasn't impressed, even though I admit the sound wasn't first rate.
I've seen Cook E. Jarr. It's a clown act, he's a clown.

Not saying that he can't be enjoyed in a certain way, and not saying that he's not a nice person. He can be, and probably is.

But come on. A guy and a karaoke machine aping what people who never saw a true lounge act think it must have been like?

That's a clown act.
