Cool how things can work out

Well,after the fiasco of getting hit by lightning thurs. night and house back in order,my son comes home saturday and says"hey dad,check out this bench press set at dicks on sale for 180 bucks.Can we buy it?". Meant to read,will you go buy it for me . Of course i say no way in heck.Look pal,people give that stuff away all day long,if you want a bench set,we'll get one,OK? But da..aaadd,it's on sale and we cant wait to long,they might sell out. Be patient andrew,we'll find something.
Lo and behold,driving up the street here on sunday,what do i notice sitting in a driveway with a for sale sign on it. Yeppers,a really nice bench with gym quality bars,weights and tree for them. Got it for 100 bucks,and it gets better.



When we go back to pick it all up,theres an entire 3 station gym set dismantled in the guys garage. After talking with the guy for a bit,turns out he just needs to get rid of it and ends up GIVING it to us. Holy gym shit batman! I make sure i can fit it in our basement and go back to get it also.




This was so cool in so many ways. I have been needing to start some kind of strength training regimen,my weight is close to what i want it to be at,but still pretty weak. My neighbor has a bowflex and been meaning to get it set up but never has.
So now,ive got an entire gym(as soon as we get it put it back together) in my basement and i'm stoked to get on it. Its' also great that my son is looking forward to us working out togother as much as i am with him.

At the end of the day,we got 5k of equipment for 100 bucks. Acually i felt bad about not being able to give the guy any more money and told him why and turns out he was burned once pretty bad so he was just happy it was going to a place where its going to be well used. Life is good!

Nice! But, is that ceramic tile? Ceramic tiles and iron plates don't get along so well. $100 is a steal. The plates look like new.

You got hit by lightning Thursday night? That doesn't happen very often.

Time to tidy up that office.

I thought you were going to tell us that the steel plates were really spray painted black and they were actually made of gold that was smuggled out of China by the same family that bought all of the donut shops in town and had to move out of town in a hurry when the Chinese mafia came after them....

Oh, but you had good luck anyway. So, would you say lightning struck twice? Use that money you saved to buy lotto tickets... or play megabucks.

and will probably never ever doubt anything you say after your statement, "people give that stuff away all day long" was not only true,

Nice score! These coincidences certainly do happen, and I'm glad to see one worked out for you. You'll find your final stages in recovery will really start to move along with regular use of this equipment. Now get it set up and get going!
PS. your story reminds me of one I stumbled on a few years back - my then 6 year old nephew decided he wanted to be a rock drummer when he grew up and announced this to his parents, who quickly informed him he could have lessons on pretty much any instrument... except drums! About a week later, what do I see in a front yard in our neighbourhood but a complete drum kit with a "free" sign on it! Slammed on the brakes, rang the doorbell and asked what the scoop was. The parents said they simply couldn't take the noise anymore and had bought their son an electric guitar instead. They wanted the drum kit gone so bad they promptly loaded them into my van for me! My nephew thinks I'm the coolest aunt ever to this day (and he's a pretty decent drummer too, but he moved on to the bass guitar when he turned 14). My sister-in-law will take her revenge someday when I least expect it!
