Council Bluffs Iowa

How does Horseshoe and Harrahs compare to each other in Council Bluffs, and how far apart are they ? and which has the better hotel Thanks, would like any information.
DonDiego has not had the pleasure of visiting Council Bluffs, IA. He never expects too, . . . as life persists in getting shorter and shorter, . . .
So DonDiego cannot compare the properties or their hotels. Generally speaking, Harrah's properties offer games with odds less friendly to the player.

Nonetheless, Google can provide a map with directions and mileage:

The Ameristar property is on the Missouri River between them.
Skim,

My husband and I stay at Harrah's Council Bluffs coming and going from IL to visit our son in CO. Here is the scoop:

Harrah's hotel is great - we get a really nice room each visit. However the casino is indeed a boat - 3 floors and not very large. There is a Diamond lounge, buffet, and coffee shop. All staff are very friendly.

Horseshoe is very close - perhaps a mile at most, and there is a shuttle that runs between both places approx. every half-hour. The Horshoe is a land-based casino, much larger than Harrah's - lots of slot/tables selection. Also there is a Diamond Lounge, buffet, and an upscale restaurant (not sure about a coffee shop - can't remember). The negative here (in my opinion) is that the casino is not attached to a hotel. The chain hotels are very close however - across the parking lot, or a short distance. If you qualify for a comped room - the chain hotels are also comped through Harrah's.

We always stay at Harrah's due to the nice hotel rooms, and the covered parking garage. If we have time we take the shuttle over to Horseshoe - if we arrive late we spend one or two hours in Harrah's casino.

Let me know if you have any other questions...............MB
The Horseshoe in Council Bluffs now has a Hilton attached to it. It does have a 24 hour coffee shop and a steak house as well as a buffet and bar food in the bar. The Diamond Lounge serves hot food from 11 AM - 2 PM and 5 PM - 8 PM. We prefer the Horseshoe over Harrahs, but everyone has their own favorite. It is larger and seems to have more variety of video poker and slots which is what we play. The Horseshoe has a large live poker room if that is something you enjoy. They also have greyhound racing.

Harrah's no longer has a Diamond Lounge. They have replaced it with "The Captain's Lounge" which is on the 3rd floor of the casino. It is like the old Diamond Lounge with the addition of video poker at the bar and a few slots. The serving hours are the same as the Horseshoe's. They also have a buffet and 24 hour coffee shop.

All food outlets in Iowa are smoke free so Diamond Lounges are included in that category. This is something we enjoy, but others may not.

Horseshoe casino was much better. Did not have their own hotel. I didn't really like the Harrahs casino, liked the Ameristar riverboat much better.
I agree with gruberbox about the Ameristar Casino and hotel being far better than Harrahs.

We will drive up from Kansas City, MO to stay & play there and it has exceptional rooms and game choices
Thanks to all replies,we were booked to go to Harrahs Tunica,as you know all 9 casinos in Tunica are closed as of Monday 2nd of May due to high water,as well as other casinos on the big " muddy " will be closing. We are diamonds and air, room and with comps.Thank you all again.
I found by calling cash cage in Council Bluffs, you don't write markers, just checks every where is different.
Council Bluffs has 3 casino's total, I have visited all often.
2 are boats and one is land based.

In my opinion you can not compare Harrahs boat and hotel to Ameristar which also has a hotel. The Ameristar is tops on all things one would consider.
better buffet
high end restaurant is better
rooms and TV are far better
gaming choices and winning seems to be a bit better also.

Harrahs boat has very little for me to visit or get excited about. The motel last time I visted still did not have flat panel TV's which is a must nowdays. Lots of the lower life welfare gamers visit here.

Horseshoe is Harrahs land based casino. Very nice open casino, lots of games to pick from. BJ rules are pretty good. Buffet is average.

Lower life welfare gamers????? How many paychecks are you away from being one of them if you lose your job???

Besides, you want them gambling, they are helping the local economy.
