On a serious note tho, does anyone here ever use CL? I've got a lotta stuff to sell and seems like a pretty good way to unload a bunch of things,as having a garage sale isn't practical at all as well as being very unappealing to me.

I've bought and sold on Craigs List. I sell stuff on eBay that is easily and cheaply shipped, but for the larger stuff, I use Craigs List.
Yeah, I use it. But I'm looking for a car right now, and it's complete BS. At least 3/4 of the cars are being sold by someone who doesn't have title, in my estimation. I also wouldn't recommend it to women, because of the chance of encountering a criminal.

There can be good and bad experiencs with Craig's List.

Our first attempt was a set of deck furniture - had lots of responses - and I think a few people enjoy pulling people's legs. They promised to come and never showed up - called to say "hold it" because they were coming tomorrow...tomorrow came and still didn't show up. We finally took it off the list, relisted it a week later for cheaper price - got a bunch of calls - took the first one that came...she loved it, bought it and was THRILLED.

Our second and so far, last, listing was for our 11 year old car...low mileage...had tons of calls.....held it for someone who was coming the next day and told the others if this guy doesn't show then they can come.
First guy came - brought cash - done deal. We were thrilled - they were thrilled.

No cost for advertising like ebay and shipping costs are nil.

You can really make out better using Craig's List than a garage sale!!!
I have bought and sold on both. I have had very few problems. Nothing that wasn't resolved, just a misunderstanding.
The good thing about ebay are the seller/buyer reviews and ratings.
CL is great for larger items like BobOrme stated.
I bought a car 1 time on ebay.i paid $400 for it and put $1,200 in it and it lasted me 2 years. So that wasn't bad.

CL you will most likely get a few scam emails within the first few mins. your ad goes up, then they usually go away.
I wont use it anymore it is a haven for fraudsters. Someone else already brought up the safety issue.

Here is how that guy was trying to scam you (besides the obvious identity theft angle) as soon as you agree to hold the item for him, he would relist (using your description and pic) at a low price to get a quick sale. Generally speaking there are 2 ways this scam concludes: 1. He sends you some form of bogus payment saying he would send his “friends” over to pick the item up. You give his “friends” (his buyers) the item before you discover his payment is bad. 2. He merely closes his own deal with your stuff giving his buyers your name, and once he gets his paypal or whatever he releases your address to them so they show up at your house and accuse you of scamming them because you won't give up the stuff. You get to spend the next several fun filled hours sorting it out with the local PD.
I never send/release anything on ebay until it has cleared my Paypal acct. CL is cash only as we meet and do the deal.
SCAM, SCAM, SCAM.....
Yes cash only is the way to do it. You can get reversals on your Pay Pal months later. Pay Pal accounts are traded on the internet by nefarious folks just like credit cards numbers are. If somebody buys your stuff with one of these stolen accounts you can get a reversal months after the fact and well after the perp and your stuff are long gone.
